"I want to be clear, I have no issues with the therapist we worked with (Megan) and were pleased with her plan for my child’s therapy. Because of my teenager’s very busy schedule we weren’t able to have as many sessions as we planned and when my child had the virtual sessions there were no issues beyond connectivity. My issue is that we researched therapists covered on our insurance and Linq came up straight from our insurance’s provider finder website. When I gave our insurance information on our paperwork and via phone, I was set up with a therapist (at this point I’d assume they were giving me a therapist on our plan). After the initial visit with the therapist we were called and told that our therapist wasn’t on our insurance plan but would be soon so we agreed to pay out of pocket until she was under our insurance. A few sessions later we were told our therapist WAS now covered and since our insurance deductible had been met, not only were the sessions covered, there would be no out-of-pocket expenses for us until, of course, next year. Fast forward a few weeks and I’m charged, with no notice, almost $200, taken right out of my account. When I inquired about the charges I was told our therapist was no longer on our insurance or the paperwork wasn’t complete. I had no issue with the actual charge as I signed paperwork allowing for use of my card but a courtesy call would have been nice. Had they called FIRST, not only would I have been told $200 was being withdrawn, we could have told them we’d like to only see someone on our insurance (they do have some practitioners on our plan). I contacted the office and the director tried to call me to discuss but I preferred to speak in writing. Through email I was pointed to the “several” places in my signed documents where I was informed about these possible charges and signed to accept charges should there be any (not knowing at any second my therapist could be taken off insurance). My issue is this, knowing my insurance right away, why set us up with someone there who happened to not be covered by our insurance? Next, why were we told insurance was now covering the sessions but never told that the insurance company stopped covering the sessions suddenly? A phone call to say, we are pulling money out of your account because we gave you wrong information would have been appreciated. I am reminded that therapists and therapy groups are for profit places and while each therapist may care for individuals, the human aspect of common courtesy and the sensitivity around money isn’t everyone’s priority. When sending your child to therapy one may be like me, a desperate mom trying to help my child in any way while still being cognizant of a budget. Do your research, always read what you are signing and remember while you may be in crisis mode, you are still a customer."
