"Avoid at all costs. I made an appointment to get help dealing with separation ,stress ,and anger. She’d much rather talk about her religion than actually help with your issues, and she has no problem bringing up political issues like protests which she said was due to “entitlement”. Can’t help but think this was a relevant topic to her for any other reason than the color of my skin. She literally started our first session by questioning me about my religious background, my partners and said that’s what she likes to do first. She also condescendingly dismissed the self help book(that has been helping me a lot) as “new age” and took time to promote her Christian book. This included some unknowable descriptions of heaven then this turned into talks of the afterlife which basically evolved into her telling me why I should be a Christian. Pretty gross. I didn’t reach out to be preached to, I needed help. She had the nerve to say that non Christians have a hard time with forgiveness, as if they are emotionally lesser, because they don’t believe the same things she does. Knowing I’m dealing with separation issues from a leaving 13 year relationship she thought it was constructive to tell me my wife is probably not going to forgive me because she’s not religious. She also said that her therapist is going to tell her to leave me because they probably won’t be religious either. At the end of our first session I told her that I didn’t want to talk about religious stuff going forward and she said “well, I was just being honest”. She also took time to excitedly plug her brothers sleep apnea clinic. She shamelessly promoted her own personal feelings, and beliefs more than she helped me with mine. Since then I’ve gotten a new therapist and when I tell them what happened with Karla they laugh at how ridiculous everything she said was. This woman is the kind that turns people away from therapy forever When I cancelled the follow up appointment she had the nerve to gaslight me and pretend that she never brought up religion or politics. Her concern I feel like is more with the good feeling she gets from “helping” people than it is with actually providing benefit to them. Even if you are Christian and think this is ok, the session still felt very phoned in and the only good thing I could glean from this I could have found reading articles on google. Karla if you reply to this review pretending like I’m not a person who tried to get help from you or you keep up the CYA act I’ll post screenshots of our email communications."
"Went to Karla Austin when I was 13-14 years old and I was struggling with undiagnosed depression and bipolar disorder (now that I’m 20 I have received a diagnosis) I went to several therapist and Karla was the only one I felt truly listened and acknowledged that I was younger dealing with both teenage issues and real mental health issues. To this day I recommend her to everyone who asks."
"Very nice Christian lady. Cant really review when we all have different issues and match with different types of therapist. She wasnt a match for my needs but shes someone you can vent to and she will listen."
"This lady is a seriously a Joke! She claims to be a Christian and caring, Nope! Didn’t get any type of true help from her. My Family Doctor said he would never refer patients to her. Anyways long story short. He found us someone so much better and we are on a good path now. Amen, Thank you Father God. By the way you’ve met me and my Family, but it’s ok pretend you’ve never met us. Perfectly fine with me. Just giving my true honest opinion."
"Dr. Austin has helped my husband through many trials of life and while he gripes about going, he feels better after he talks with her. She gives good life advice and hasn't always had it easy herself so she is easily to relate to and down to earth."
