"This is a great school! My son really likes attending this school. Their IB diploma classes are also good and lots of extracurricular activities for students."
"Heya. I go here. My other review is listed under "Evan Rodriguez" but for whatever reason I can't change it. Onto the actual review itself. To begin, I've been going here since first grade in 2011. I was, in general, a bad student. Completely objectively horrible. I actually want to congratulate this school on sticking with me and helping me figure out that I need to get my life together. The programs they have in place to help students are really good, and I almost never have issues with staff. Schoolwork is another story entirely. I am well aware Meridian is an IB world school. Hence the name. Despite this, the workload is often nearly unbearable. Quite enough, I find that if I don't slack off a bit, I'd never have any semblance of free time. This issue boils down to one thing; homework. A possible solution to this is simple relaxation. Instead of trying to cram everything down our throats like a mother mockingbird feeding her stupid loud kids outside my bedroom window, I suggest they try to teach everything necessary in class. This leaves kids the ability to research things they may actually be interested in at home. This keeps kids from having to think about the battle of whatever, something they don't actually need to know. Further still, the language curriculum is extremely lacking. Despite being, I reiterate, an INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE WORLD SCHOOL, Meridian is frustratingly lacking in the language acquisition department, the likes of which I've never seen in an IB situation. The only languages taught are French and Spanish. If you aren't quite aware, these are already very readily spoken around us, as we were colonised by those nations first. Extracurricular classes are readily avaliable. I've taken interest in several languages simply not avaliable to me, these being Javanese, Finnish, Czech, Japanese, Korean, Russian and German. None of these classes are offered, nor even spoken about in Meridian. Even still, Meridian is so bold as to plaster Hindi, Arabic and even Mandarin on the south wall of the MS building. Even on the entryway to the middle school building, languages not taught are displayed. There's a good group of students (I don't interact with these people, but I hear them in the hallways) that are outright mean to other people. The bathrooms in the MS building constantly have some mysterious clear liquid plastered all over them, and I literally don't know if it's water or... something else. The sinks do not work, and some soap dispensers never seem to get replaced. I get it. It's built in an old warehouse building. This is, architecturally, not a school. Even still, the cleanliness of the MS side is lacking in all aspects. I generally reccomend really, really knowing what you're signing up for when you apply anywhere, but ESPECIALLY here. Don't be blindsided. EDIT: Wow, the bird's-eye of the main building looks like a starship."
"Over all this school is ok. I haven't had the best experience this year due to covid, but you can't really blame the school for that. Most teachers here are genuinely nice and will help you if you ask. If your kid is unchallenged at public school, I would enroll them here since there is more challenge but a bunch more homework and assignments in middle school and high school. I would also enroll them in during their primary years because it will familiarize them with the IB program. The reason I give the school a 3 is because it's not bad, but it's not the greatest school in the universe, obviously everything has its flaws. This school is more academically based and the sports program is quite small. But please give it a chance and think about the needs of your kid and not your own personal opinion on what your kid should being doing with their education. Have a great day to whoever reads this."
"My son has gone here 3 years and it has been a wonderful blessing for him and us. We had 1 half year that was less than stellar but it was more the in and out teacher than the school. The homework certain years is a bit tedious but third grade is great with all they projects and science, etc. Most of the teachers go above and beyond and the staff i have come into contact with are very nice. I do find some of the rules a bit restrictive but I see why they have them. The only thing I don't like about the school is some of the parents who don't seem appreciative or follow the rules."
"Excellent staff and teachers. They keep parents involved in what is going on and in kids education in general. I think that is a positive and not a negative. parents are not forced to but they want to be a part of their kids life and this amazing school. Kids are taught from early on on how to be thinkers and problem solvers and not just focus on how to score well in tests. I love this school. we are fortunate to be a part of MERIDIAN community. Go Lions!!!"
