"I'm 67 years old. I am far from a natural musician. I am dyslexic with a predisposition to turning things around. A lot of simple things that seem to be easy to others can be very difficult for me. The teachers have been patient with me and allowed me to grow at my own pace and not been judgmental. My parents bought me a guitar when I was 11 but when my disabilities became an obstacle they stopped my lessons; didn't want to waste their money. I really wanted to learn to play guitar, even just a little, but I didn't even have the ability to tune it. So, I just gave up. I still had the guitar when I retired (at 65) from teaching/coaching so I dragged it out of the attic and started practicing chords. I vowed I wouldn't buy lessons or anything until I built callouses; meaning I was serious. I got callouses and went to store to buy new strings and discovered that for $300 more the new strings came with a new guitar. I bought it. It is actually a decent guitar so I practiced some more and at a festival I came in contact with Bach to Rock folks and decided to take lessons. I am still at it and hoping some day to be able to share music in a meaningful way with others. Thank you for providing me the opportunity."
