"We went there on a field trip, felt welcomed"
"The Good- The accelerated MS Global Commerce is a phenomenal degree plan. It’s useful, practical, relevant, and current (You’re not learning outdated skill or information). I am blessed to have been led to this course of study because it provides the exact, updated information I needed as a business owner. It teaches the ins-and outs of import-export activities, international business law, international trade, sustainability and adopting a global mindset plus other topics. Oh, you’ll also be given real resources and real contact information that will help you perform the job- whatever it may be in the future like, for example, organizations to conduct business background checks, setting up business organization (LLC, Corporation, etc), trade liability insurance, plus a lot more relevant, useful information. The program emphasizes the skill and knowledge needed to be a global sustainability manager and also a Supply Chain Manager. The thing I really enjoyed was each course builds upon the other and there’s information from a previous course that is reiterated in the theory of the new courses. This is awesome because it helps to retain the information and allows us (students) to put into practice what we learned. Although I’m sure graduates of this plan can apply for many different jobs, I know for a fact anyone can leave with real skills to perform at least 3 high-paying jobs. If you’re looking for a way to become truly competitive in the market or if you’re looking for information on how to conduct international trade activities and KNOW what you’re doing with confidence, this is the right program for you. Lastly, the format. All courses are 100% online at your own pace but with set due dates. Professors are all professional and most were encouraging. It isn’t too heavy on group work (praise God!) although there will be a couple. Another thing I enjoyed is that most of the professors brought their years of experience in the field to the table and provided it in their feedback/guidance. It’s incredible. The Bad- Although I am excited about the degree plan (MS Global Commerce), to receive any type of support at this school is IMPOSSIBLE. I always have to jump through hoops to reach anyone by phone and it takes days for anyone to respond via email. Any time I call to ask for help on my degree plan, I can expect to not be helped and can count on having to try to get in contact with anyone for days. It never fails. If there is any reason to not attend UTRGV grad school, this is it. But I will say, there are faculty who do respond in a reasonable time frame and that’s what makes the program worth it. Just FYI, being an online student does require a certain type of grit- from students- as well as understanding. Communication should be at the top of the list for students and faculty when it comes to online education. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being stellar, I’d rate the communication from faculty a 2 ( very difficult). It should be a lot better. Out of the 8 professors I’ve had, 3 had outstanding communication and responded within 24 hours. 2 responded within a couple hours and that’s a tremendous blessing. I had one professor who took 3 or more days to respond on pressing issues (multiple students had the same complaint) and it was clear he could not have cared less. UTRGV is the first college I’ve attended where I’ve had such a bad experience with trying to get in contact with anyone, for anything."
"I got admitted to the MFA(Art) degree program as an international student, and Dr. Grewal, the Exec. VP for Research, Grad Studies and New Program Development, offered me a generous Graduate Assistantship, as a part of the Presidential Graduate Research Assistantship offer from Spring 2021. Unfortunately, due to the spike in covid cases, deaths and immigration issues, I had to drop my UTRGV plan and continue my graduate education in my home country. But I'll never forget the people who are constantly working for providing the best student support, even during these testing times. Thank you, and god bless us all."
"I’ve never been there but others are giving 5 star so I’ll give 5 stars"
