"After visiting the birth center for the first time for a “field trip” for one of my classes in my Master’s program, I fell in love with this place and had my heart set on using them for the birth of my first child. Before visiting there, I hadn’t known there were other options for birthing other than using a hospital, and this option made a lot of sense to me. When I became pregnant with my first child, I talked to my husband about the center. He Is a firefighter/EMT and is going through paramedic school. Being exposed to emergency medical situations all of the time, he was pretty reluctant about birthing outside of a hospital. We did a tour before choosing for sure where we would birth and Jean answered all of my husbands questions about how care worked there. He felt better after seeing all of the emergency medical equipment they had there and learning that their protocol for any major complications is to transfer to a nearby hospital. I had a particularly difficult labor. My baby came 10 days after his due date and I had been experiencing contractions for periods of 12 hours at a time for 3 days leading up to my actual labor and delivery. I had slept a total of 4 hours over the two days leading up to it, each time believing I was in active labor. On the day I actually went into labor, Jean met with me to check me out and she could tell how exhausted I was and ready to have the baby. She prescribed me medication to help me take a long nap that day and stripped my membranes to get active labor started. She was confident I would have a baby that day. I went home and got about 6 hours of sleep, and while I was still exhausted when active labor began, I felt much less depleted than before. I labored for 18 hours total, and spent about 14 of that at the birth center. Elaine was on call that evening and was so comforting and wonderful. She left my husband and I to labor alone but would come and check on me and the baby quite often. I progressed very slowly and had terrible back labor. Throughout the entire experience, she encouraged me and told me what a good job I was doing even though I didn’t feel like it. At 7 am, she went home and Jean came in. At this time, I was nearing time to push, but Jean could tell how much pain I was in and how exhausted I was. She was so kind and kept encouraging me and telling me how strong I was. She and a birth assistant were there for the birth and knowing my husband was in paramedic school, she asked if he would like to deliver the baby. He was very nervous, but felt reassured that she would help him along the way. She guided him through everything and he got an amazing opportunity to deliver our first child that he could have never had at a hospital. Over all, my experience at Innana was wonderful. My labor and delivery was so difficult and yet I don’t think I could have gotten the natural childbirth I wanted anywhere else. The emotional support of the staff there is unmatched and I’ll forever be grateful to them for helping me bring my son into the world!"
"I can’t even articulate how much I love Inanna. The care is completely personalized. During all of my prenatal visits, I was never rushed and was given all necessary time and attention. I was able to text the midwives with any questions or concerns throughout my pregnancy, and on more than one occasion, they met me at the office outside of regular hours to check me. My labor and birth experience was so empowering and redemptive. I was able to birth exactly the way I wanted. Jean has a wonderful bedside manner, and she is immensely knowledgeable and skilled. I feel so fortunate that I found Inanna."
"I had my first child here in March 2017. I decided to do an out of hospital birth after doing a ton of research first. Once I decided that's what I wanted I looked up birth centers I found Inanna. I read the reviews on here some of which are kinda scary but decided to take a tour. The tour was done by Jean, she is the owner of the center. She is VERY knowledgeable and can can answer any question you have. When I started my prenatal care there Jean ended up being the midwife who did the majority of the appointments. She was really to the point at the appointment so there wasn't too much conversation but that didn't really bother me. I still felt very comfortable and safe with my choice to birth at Inanna. Lauren worked the from desk on almost every appointment we had and she is the sweetest lady I have met. She is very easy to talk to and I always looked forward so seeing her. Definitely one of my favorite people there. I also took a birthing class that Jean holds at her home. Lauren assisted teaching the class and there were guest speakers as well. The class was great but I didn't get to finish it because I went into labor 3 weeks before my due date. The class was so much more that just breathing. It went into the emotional side and we learned pain management techniques as well. I definitely recommend it and I'm bummed I didn't get to finish the class. When I went into labor Jean was the midwife on call. I called her and she told me to head to the birth center. I got there around 1230 am she checked to see how far dialated I was. She told me I was already 8-9cm. She then called a birth assistant in. Once the birth assistant came Jean was in another room until she was needed. The birth assistant rebekah took care of me untill I was ready to push. She was very nice and was there to help if I needed something but stayed out of the way and let me work through the contractions on my own. When it came time to push Jean came back and coached me through the contractions. Rebekah was there to hold on too while I pushed and was very sweet. I pushed for about 2 hours then with a little help from Jean delivered my baby girl at 4:18am. After the delivery and Jean said everything was OK rebekah took care of us untill we were cleared to go home. She helped me start breastfeeding and took care of me. She gave us a lot of information and answered all our questions. We were cleared to go home at 630am and actually left about 715am. I loved that I didn't have to stay there forever. I was able to go home and sleep in my own bed just hours after giving birth. That part might be scary to some but nothing beats the comfort of home. We had follow up appointments with another midwife Elaine and she was amazing. Very friendly and sweet. She made me feel better after I has having some trouble with breastfeeding. She gave me the support I needed and reassured me I was doing a great job. I loved my pre and postnatal care and loved birthing experience at Inanna and would have all my babies there if I could. Unfortunately we ended up moving 2 hours away and it's much to far. The staff is the greatest and if you want an out of hospital birth but home birth sounds scary this is definitely a place to look into. If I still lived in Denton I would stop by just to say HI because I seriously love and miss the staff here."
"My husband and I have had a fantastic experience at Inanna for several years now. We initially had multiple challenges in our first several pregnancies, but Jean and the entire staff there have always been so comforting and such a blessing to us. I feel that the birth class that Jean hosts is excellent preparation for the reality of natural childbirth and made the delivery of my first child three years ago such a positive experience. We never feel rushed at appointments and our questions and input are always welcome with such patience. We are now expecting our second child any day now, and I wouldn't want to be birthing under anyone else's care. I am so grateful for the support and kindness of the lovely ladies at Inanna!!"
"I had a great experience here! I had a home birth with my first baby. But I didn't think my fiance felt comfortable with a home birth, so a birth center was the perfect happy medium for both of us. All the women there are so sweet. Every. Single. One. Every appointment I felt important and that I was listened to. They are very understanding, compassionate women. They offer GREAT, I mean the best childbirth classes, I'd recommend them to anyone. Whether you plan on a natural birth in or out of the hospital. I had a beautiful birth. I am pregnant again and wouldn't go anywhere else. They are a good 30-40 min drive for me, but it's worth it. Can't say enough good things about this place!"
