"Spacious and clean rooms, but definitely not sound proof. Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. They brought new ear plugs up when I realized I forgot to bring some. Would definitely stay here again!"

"I have stayed at Hotel Julien 3 separate times and all for different reasons. I would say some of the negative reviews are nit-picky and lack perspective. This hotel is not a modern white box in a historic building. It is full of charm and history and can probably only be loved by those that appreciate those things. My husband I enjoyed the spa getaway. A very fair price allowed us a night stay, a spa credit and two dining vouchers at the on-site restaurant. There was a bit of a mix up when we arrived but not only was it remedied quickly, the front desk was overly apologetic and full of kindness. We went during the cold spell so we found the room to be cold upon arrival but we had no trouble warming it up quickly. We were comfortable throughout our stay. The spa was outstanding, our meal was delicious and the location is ideal (in warmer weather). Stay here and take a break from the bare modern boxes being built while enjoying really friendly staff and a great location."

"The rooms are small and this hotel is beyond dated-no longer in a charming way. None of the machines in the workout room worked and most all were rusty. With missing plastic, latches, buttons. There was also visible piles of moveable sand in hottub and poo. We tried a skimmer on the dark spots and it would come off…so maintenance is bit behind. There’s no microwave in the room and they will add $100 extra over room price as a hold for incidentals and such. Julien Dubuque has a rich history but the overall stay is as dated as the building."

"Great weekend getaway! This is a very classy, clean and historic hotel with lots of amenities (including the spa). It is located downtown and within walking distance to the waterfront. It is also very easy to rent an overnight boat slip in the Port Of Dubuque Marina and walk to the hotel - highly recommended."
