"I have never hated a place so much. What is also ironically funny is that the mental health secretaries/operators are so rude. It's mental health, maybe don't be there and give us veterans attitude or be unhelpful when we need the care. Also, it's hard to get appointments, and when you do, they aren't very helpful anyway. Some of the doctors there have no idea what they are talking about or even doing. I have to continue to make appointments and ask the same questions over and over for care/referrals. Why can't they hear me the first or second time? No wonder so many veterans kill themselves. It is beyond frustrating and overwhelming. Yes, there are some nice and helpful people that work there, but it does not omit the majority of bitter people there. I cannot say it enough, I HATE it there. And if I was able to go to another VA I would, but I was told I cannot because it is "out of my area", which doesn't even make sense. They need to get it together. I have vet friends who REFUSE to go to this VA and actually pay out of pocket instead because they don't want to deal with this horrible place."
"Beautiful building, never airport. Planes coming and going. Make for some nice photos. Inside is cool, comfortable. Quiet but not like a library, or hospital. Our latest trip was for hearing. Next is eyes. We located the dentist , he will be next on list. All in the same building. Must be really sound proofed. Really good experience, everytime. Even in becoming familiar was a ride in ambulance. Everyone has been accommodating, friendly. Sometimes even fun."
"I've been coming to this facility for years, at least 20 visits. On every single occasion I've been treated with respect and dignity. I find the employees and volunteers very knowledgeable and more than willing to render assistance. I've recommended this place to multiple fellow veterans, all of whom thanked me afterwards. There is a department here for just about anything you could need. If they don't have it on-site, they will assist you in finding a place where you can receive whatever care you need."
"Nothing makes me feel worse about my service than coming to this VA. Every receptionist is rude and dismissive, as if me checking into an appointment has offended them or interrupted what they were doing. Zero compassion or empathy. Literally every single one of them."
"I have seen changes in the VA over the last few years. They have become more friendly toward you the patient. What I don't understand is why they hire all doctors from India? Or a large majority are not from the USA but another nationality. The Austin facility is very modern and easy to maneuver."
