Reviews of Duet on 39th Apartments
"It honestly pains me to write such a low review of this place, but the new management is so incredibly awful that my previous experience with living here means nothing anymore. Of course you will always have issues when renting, but this was very different. I originally moved in about 3 years ago after college with Roscoe managing at the time. They were fine, I had no complaints. What ended up being my final year living at the Duet (to my surprise which I will get into more in a bit) was also when Fenton ATX took over. Fair warning, Fenton ATX is a California based company without a central in-house office in Austin. They hire an answering service and will take weeks to get back to you. This includes sending you any information about renewal… I requested information for new paperwork and after multiple emails finally got a response back less than 30-days before my lease was supposed to end. I understand that Austin is crazy right now, but I was told on very short (illegal…) notice that they would be raising my rent $500 more while refusing to upgrade my 2009-style broken appliances/apartment/community laundry. After talking to some neighbors, about 5 of us ended up being forced to leave on barely any notice because of the apartments lack of response/care for its tenants. TLDR; ATX Fenton is an awful management company with terrible communication skills and no interest in caring for their renters. The units are overpriced for how old they are and had issues that included: - floorboards literally disintegrating in all of the common areas - roaches and ants, despite the many attempts to have pest control help - broken and outdated appliances and outlets - laundry that never works and frequently gets broken into - INCREDIBLY LOUD CONSTRUCTION so don’t even try working from home)"
"What a horrible experience I had living here. Apartment was ok in the sense that it was relatively recently renovated, but other than that, what a host of issues. I ended up only living here for six months instead of my intended twelve because of the dumpster fire it was. Where to begin? A dishwasher that leaked and ultimately took nearly two months to be replaced, a broken pipe in the sink that meant I couldn't use either my sink or wash clothes for a week in my apartment, another leak in the bathroom, an insane upstairs neighbor that yelled at the top of his lungs furiously at all hours of the night, oh, and that whole gas leak thing that went on for over a month with NO HOT WATER FOR A MONTH. Then, it took ATX Fenton well over a month past the latest date to return my security deposit and prorated rent (which in their defense, at least they didn't charge us for rent while the apartment unit was without hot water and had gas leaks). Good riddance."
"Rented here for a year with Roscoe, loud neighbors (outside of the complex mostly the frat dudes in the next building), trashed complex, never fixed anything. Literally would not replace our broken dishwasher or even fix it for several months at a time and it flooded our entire apartment. Fenton is no better. They took over right at the end of our 1 year here. They also did not fix anything. We moved out May 31, 2021. It is currently July 12, 2021 and they still refuse to give us our deposit back. They won’t call back or answer any of our emails. I have emailed repeatedly and called repeatedly. Do not rent here. You can live in the area with cheaper rent, or move about 5-10 minutes south for the same price and twice the space."
"I've lived here since August 2020 and gave my notice as soon as I could. If you want hot water issues, this is your place. I've never had to take so many basin baths in my life as I have here. Currently, ATX Fenton is now the owners of the property and they are quickly learning how messed up it is. Currently on day 3 without hot water. I know my experience is related solely to me,t, but damn, I've never had so much regret about living in one place."
"TLDR: this place sucks and I’ve only been here 3 months. why?? -my apartment leaked water from the roof (still no one did anything to fix this directly) -my apartment got broken into and robbed -my AC BROKE AND THEY ARE MAKING ME WAIT 2 DAYS WITHOUT AC TO FIX IT I moved in end of March of 2018 (this year) and in the short not-even-3 months I have lived here, in the “newly-renovated, not-even-lived-in-yet” apartment complex: 1) my bedroom CLOSET???? leaked when it rained. The management said they would get maintenance to fix the roof. That has nothing to do with my closet leaking. Come in and fix the leak not the dam roof. 2) my apt has been broken into and robbed 3) and my AC broke on Saturday (today) afternoon and they basically told me I have to wait till MONDAY to replace the motor and get it fixed. I cannot even get in touch with management until “office hours” on Monday to see if I can get a hotel and be compensated by them to cover sleeping without suffocating in the Texas best. 4) I don’t even know if I will even be compensated for the hotel I would stay at Also, the leasing office never picks up their phone, ever. Of the 20 times I’ve called them in the time I’ve been here, they’ve picked up probably twice. Not the kind of odds you want to live with, literally. Attached is a picture of the “quick fix” they had to last me through the weekend. A tiny portable friggin AC unit that blasts heat out the window. It has to be attached to a window. And mind you, this apt was robbed a week ago. This tiny thing won’t do ANYTHING to heat my 3-bedroom apt, and certainly doesn’t make me feel any safer. Also have attached pictures of the leak. Which no one has done anything to fix inside my apt. So they don’t even know what the problem was that was causing this crack in particular to leak.. Honestly, I don’t even know if the roof has been fixed anyway. So this place isn’t safe or well built, and has TERRIBLE management so don’t be an Esther and stay away"
