"The apartment complex is plagued with issues including roach infestations, malfunctioning security cameras, frequent car break-ins, elevators frequently out of service, and even a murder in the stairwell, compromising safety and security. Living at St. John’s West Apartments managed by Equity Residential has been a nightmare. Despite providing documentation, management unlawfully charged pet fees for my service animal, violating the Fair Housing Act (FHA). Moreover, pest control measures were conducted without consent, resulting in health concerns for both myself and my pet due to poisonous substances sprayed in our living space, including our food. As a result, my dog has gotten a few time due to their lack of care with tenants. Communication with management is ineffective, and the overall lack of care and concern for tenants' well-being is appalling. This is by far the worst property management I've encountered."
"potential residents, I lived here back in 2020-2021 and it was amazing. Had zero issues with the complex/ management company and felt everything ran exceptionally smooth. Fast forward to 2023 I give it a go again now that I have relocated back in Austin. Since my move in, there has been one issue after another. I couldn’t even move in on time and had to stay in a secondary unit for a week (which was in july and i still haven’t seen a credit for on my portal) They have taken out the amazon lockers and theater to put one big package room that has had NUMEROUS break ins. There is still no solution to this but locking the doors @ 8PM so residents and thief's can’t get in. You also cannot park any ol car in a spot you pay for in your garage as per the new parking policy. Your registration has to be up to date and no flat tires or they will tow it from the complex even with a RESIDENT STICKER. Please read all the other reviews from current tenants before calling this your home."
"Potential residents, please be aware of SJW's rampant theft, specifically mail theft. Management doesn't care, and will give excuses as to why it is not their fault. I don't want to talk on the phone about it, my emails are clear and includes all details. Equity Residential does not care. Read the Flora's reviews as well. I recommend the Echo if you want to be on N Lamar. Also, check out the view!"
"I am a current resident here and will be moving out in December. During my time here, I have had packages stolen from me and have my car hit while parked in the parking lot and received zero feedback from the apt after trying to get more information even though there are cameras in the parking lot (prob does not work). It is extremely difficult to get food delivered to your door because of the lay out, I have helped many delivery people to the right building or floor. The last straw was their policy on notice if you do not plan on renewing your lease. The lease requires 60 days notice (although TX law simply requires 30). For each day you are off of that 60 days, they will charge you a fee equal to your rental rate. This fee is much higher than other apartments I've lived in the past. Because I have 53 days notice instead of 60, they will be charging me 400 dollars. This management company will try to squeeze every penny out of you, I suggest staying away."
