Eye Associates of South Texas Hondo

"I gave an unacceptable review of Dr Burns last year after he did cataract surgery on both of my eyes. (A nurse at that time asked me if I would consider removing my review from Dr Burns website. I did, but I should not have). When Dr Burns completed the right eye, I experienced incredible pain, swelling, and the whites of my eyes filled up with blood, about an hour after I got home. When my husband called his office they told me I could NOT return to the hospital in Hondo, which is about SIX MINUTES from my home, because Dr Burns was in surgery all day. They did NOT recommend going to the clinic which had the right equipment (or so Dr Burns said this time when I finally saw him over a YEAR later) I would think a good doctor would make sure the equipment would be available at the hospital for use in emergencies such as the one I experienced! His staff told me to go see Dr. Bui who was 45 minutes away from our house! Fortunately, she took care of me, which is more than I can say for Dr Burns and his staff. Dr. Bui commented that if had waited much longer my retina could have detached. Dr. Burns staff/office never scheduled a follow up appointment to see HIM. Likewise, although he was told about what happened to me, HE never reached out; no concern or apology was ever offered. I was handed off to another eye doctor to see in Hondo. 15 MONTHS later I finally got an appointment with Dr Burns in Hondo. He was very nonchalant, distant, and told me I should have gone to the clinic when my surgery went sideways.. However, it is strange that no one in his office TOLD me that at the time, and I had to drive 45 minutes to see Dr. Bui. He really didn’t seem to care about my ordeal, and still said nothing in the way of an apology, or a concern. Rather, he told me he would’ve been happy to see me at any time in San Marcos. (which is an hour and a half from my home) or Seguin, (which is also an hour and a half from my Home.) This made me wonder why he even comes to Hondo for surgeries if he is not going to be available immediately after them for a any emergencies or follow up care. I believe the answer to that is - money, since he runs his surgery patients through like cattle. (Thus, the problem with my eye.) When I finally saw him THIS year, there were 20+ patients in the waiting room. I waited over an hour and a half to see him. Many of the other patients were vocally fuming at the overbooking! I was unhappy as well, just to see him for a few minutes, and then only to be talked down to in a condescending manner. If you are looking for a good caring ophthalmologist, Dr Burns is NOT who you want to see. I WOULD NOT EVER recommend or go to him again!!!This time I WILL NOT remove this review! (Follow up note I went to another eye doctor and was fitted with contacts without having to drive over an hour from my home, as I was told) Run .. don’t walk … away from Dr. Burns."

"Dr. & staff are very freindly and knowledgeable but a tad bit serious and uptight, some lite conversation or a corny joke might go a long way, mostly seniors so it could be tricky."
