Clays Ferry Interstate Bridge
About the Business
The Clays Ferry Interstate Bridge is a historic tourist attraction located on Interstate 75 in Lexington, Kentucky, United States. This bridge was once part of the Kentucky Dam, which provided electricity to rural areas in western Kentucky. The construction of the dam began in 1938 and was completed in 1944, with a dedication ceremony in 1950. The bridge carried the mainline of the Illinois Central Railroad and US Route 62. In 1998, a larger lock was added, leading to the construction of separate bridges for the railroad and highway. The new Paducah & Louisville Railway and highway crossings opened in 2009. The Clays Ferry Interstate Bridge is a testament to the engineering marvels of the past and a reminder of the importance of infrastructure in connecting communities.

"Great view of the river and bridges since the overgrowth has been removed. Check it out whenever the fall colors are popping."
"I love bridges, so when I found the Clay’s Ferry Interstate Bridge online, I had to go find it. I loved driving across it and seeing the overlook from the bridge. We then went to the overlook and saw the bridge."
"While rather boring to cross, the Clays Ferry Bridge carries I-75 and US-25 over the Kentucky River. At highway level, there isn't much to see other than three lanes of in each direction with a low wall that overlooks the river. There are clear signs prohibiting stopping or pedestrian traffic on the bridge. I'd have to guess they had traffic problems and maybe BASE jumpers here as it is some 200 feet over the river. The bridge is actually three bridges, with the original piers from the 1946 and 1963 bridges being used as part of the construction of the new bridge. Completed in in 1998 there are three lanes in each direction and full-width shoulders. Each northbound/southbound roadway is 60 feet wide and it was most recently resurfaced in 2021. There is no toll to cross the bridge."
"Five Stars on beauty but 1 star on accessibility (behind Proud Marys)."
"Beautiful and Serene place. Proud Mary's,a great Cajun restaurant sits right on the banks of the river, and has great food, staff, and ambiance! They have live bands, volleyball area, indoor and outdoor bars, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, pets are welcome. Overall, it's a fun, laid back spot to go as a family or with friends."
