"At first Floretta was very kind and took a risk with a 18 year old finding his first apartment. I’ll be forever grateful for that. But only that. The apartment I was in was over priced, smelled of smoke, the walls are stained yellow from smoke, I couldn’t cook in the apartment (whether it be air fryer or the oven) because it smoked out the apartment (I attempted deep cleaning the oven on several occasions). Soon enough there was a roach infestation in my building. They were everywhere. And while I will be the first to admit I wasn’t the cleaned person. But I sure as h*ll do not and did not let my place ever get dirty enough to warrant a roach infestation. The closet door came off the rail five minutes into me moving into the apartment and so much more. When I had moved out I was very open with Floretta and she seemed to be very open with me. I was led to believe that I paid my debt in its entirety before I left. I had nothing owed on the rent payment website and I tried contacting Floretta on several occasions. Whether it be in person or over the phone. I left voicemails and went several days to give her my last $220 that I thought I owed. She was either never there, and never returned any of my phone calls. It doesn’t help that she doesn’t have any sort of drop box for the office to be able to drop off money orders. Or at least a mail slot. I’ve been in my new apartment going on 3 months now and after hearing nothing from Winthrop I randomly get in the mail that I have a debt of just under $500. I hate to be the kind of person to think that they were attacked or taken advantage of. But in this situation I believe that this was purposeful on her part. She had always returned my calls rather quick right up until I moved out. Then it was radio silence. From what I heard from my old neighbors she has not been too hands on with this complex and it very much shows. I’m sorry but I’ve never met a business owner that takes 2 hour long lunches. It seems irresponsible. And with weekends I get that people want to have their weekends free but whenever you get into real estate I feel like you should be able to be easily contacted 7 days a week. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this complex. Even if I didn’t get screwed out of $500 I’d still say the same thing. The fact that the apartment was overall disgusting when I first moved in is enough for me to say that. And The price is ridiculous. I’m currently in a 2 bedroom, 2 year old complex that is in great shape for only $100 more than a studio apartment stained with smoke. If I could do it again I’d be willing to go with juniper hills apartments over these."
"James is a great asset to this property. He came and showed the secret for the heater. Thanks James you're the best"
"Run down, only got lip service from office manager. Repairs are very difficult to get. Maintenance men don't stay because they are overworked. Elon management owns Winthorpe and they are slum lords. Found needles by garbage dumpsters, neighbors areloud and office manager do want care because she doesn't live beside them."
"We lived there for 2 months; it is awful apartment that I have ever seen. You cannot call it an apartment, we moved from MIchigan and when arrived they still were working on there, and we had to wait several hours. We found 2 mouses there, we could not stay there and decided to early termination. For moving out I cleaned everywhere and there was no damage at all, they charged us for noting also the last rent payment done at 3rd day of the month because the first day fell on Saturday and the office was closed, Thay charged us for late fee although it is mentioned in the lease we were allowed to pay rent until 3rd day of month. The application fee we paid was non- refundable, it is so weird, if you have plan to rent there change your mind."
