About the Business
Maryhurst is an institution located at 1015 Dorsey Lane in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. As a school, our mission is to strengthen and empower children and families in need. We work tirelessly to offer healing and hope to those who are facing difficult circumstances.
In Kentucky, the rate of child abuse is alarmingly high, with nearly 13 out of every 1,000 kids experiencing abuse. We provide a safe and supportive environment for children who have been removed from their families, helping them to heal and thrive. Our goal is to empower these children to overcome their challenges and move towards a brighter future.
At Maryhurst, we see the incredible resilience of children every day. Through our programs, nearly 90 percent of children are able to transition to less-restrictive settings, such as their own home or a foster placement. We are proud to say that almost eight in 10 youth in our residential program show improvement in core subjects like reading and math during their time with us.
One of the unique aspects of Maryhurst is that our kids are advocates for foster children statewide. Our young people participate in advocacy efforts in Frankfort, speaking up for the needs of foster children throughout the Commonwealth. We are inspired by the courage and determination of these young advocates, who are making a difference in the lives of others.

"Sent my niece here straight from a mental health hospital. She got there this past Friday and it is now Monday and they have not given her any of her meds. When she informed them that she was literally going crazy and needed to see a doctor, they told her everybody feels like that and when she informed them she couldn't sleep without her medication they told her to drink warm milk even though she's lactose intolerant. I called to let them know I don't tolerate this kind of medical negligence. The staff at the Cottages are rude and they take it out on the kids. After 3 days I'm heading up there to go pick up my niece and remove her from this facility. The lockdown mental health facility treated her way better. Apparently there used to treating foster kids like this because nobody has their back but I would call over there several days and get all over the supervisors about her being in medicated and then being incapable of knowing what to do and each and every time they would say things to her or about her loud enough for her to hear. Telling her to stop crying and to get over it."
"Ran away after being abused to the point my back was cut open from being slammed against a metal door. Emergency room doctor I got to called my social worker and told her to never send me back. They wanted me back bc I was a level 5. So I was a high paying resident persay. They kept tossing me dorm to dorm bc they didn't know where I belonged..not all the staff were bad but some were. They denied me going to my papa's funeral because they said I didn't deserve it. I have so much trauma from this place Please never send your kids here.."
"Came here yesterday to drop off I guess a resident who lives there and was told two girls that were here escaped one died from suicide and when he turned to look at me he gave me an evil look! What are y'all doing to these kids?"
"I was here for almost 9 months I was put into Madeline's cottage te bathrooms were disgusting there was kids who pooped on the floor and rub it all over the walls and showers and the staff would make us clean it for a punishment they called it "lesson learned but another thing is the food for example if we had cereal we had to eat it with water and for dinner or lunch if we were still hungry the only way to get "seconds" is to drink 8 cups of water eat everything thats on on your plate and they never as our clothes they always say the dryer or washer ws broken because eye were to lazy to wash them and when it's shower time we have 5 minutes to wash our hair our body dry off get dressed brush your hair or teeth and once your timer is up u have to get out even if u still have soap in your they say put something on and get out they also make us keep the door open while we shower and othe patients can see us they took shower curtains out to and some ki had bed bugs this play is not sight they need to do something about they say it's a safe place but really it's hell"
"DO NOT WORK HERE! Training makes you think this is a great place to work and says the reviews are just “angry ex employees” but there is a reason for that!!!!! once you actually start working it is miserable. the supervisors in each form are incredible and most your coworkers are incredible but if the girls in the dorms don’t like you for any sort of reason they will find any reason to attack you. i’m an extremely nice person, always just doing my job and in the 4 months i’ve worked there ive been attacked by clients 6 times and one of the times i (being all of 5’1) was attacked by three clients and had to go to the hospital. this place has nothing under control and the higher ups leave it to the low down employees to clean up the mess. The program director Natasha is extremely unprofessional and brings her personal feelings into any conversation and if you say something she doesn’t like she will shun you. This place is horrible to work for and don’t let these people fool you. these kids are out of control and trying to take over and run the place. it’s severely understaffed and the new staff are too afraid to intervene when an altercation is happening which leaves the seasoned staff or not afraid staff helpless. if you care about your mental health… DONT WORK HERE. Childplace in jeffersonville IN is a much better place to work. the kids are amazing and even better pay!!"
