"Me giving this hospital one star is in my opinion still not deserved but , I gave birth to my first child here. Most traumatic experience ever . My daughter had trisomy 13 and they swore up and down to them that I come to them instead of staying at uofl because they had specialist, we really didn’t want to because we had a doctor we liked but felt we was doing what was good for our child . Fast forward they induce me and i didn’t give birth right away and ended up with infections and on top of that them telling me there was nothing they can do because they don’t perform surgeries on trisomy babies . Not what they told us before . And to make matters worse they left blood from me giving birth under my bed through out my stay and when time to go home they tried to keep my child in nicu when she came out fine . I felt like they were up to no good and I also had to revive my child myself in front of nurses and all they told me was this is to be expected . I felt disgusted . Moral of story if you want a trust worthy and overall good experience at a hospital this is not the place ! BEWARE !"
"I can't say enough good things about this hospital. The staff was outstanding. I did not have one bad experience with any employee I felt like I had made a bunch of new friends. Although I was on a no salt diet, the food was amazing. It looks like all I thought about was food, but when you're in the hospital, it's important."
"My oldest brother passed downtown Norton January 2nd. His daughter and wife couldn’t act like adults and leave me alone. Then a nurse asked me to leave. That is just terrible but I got to at least get there to see him before he died. I told my brother Will I loved him and he said he loved me too. Before my husband died he had 1 liver surgery and 2 brain surgeries at Norton. I have never been more disappointed in the nurses reaction to me that day my brother passed. Floor 4, section 4B. The male nurse with the little disgusting ponytail."
"I am sure there are wonderful docs and nurses at this hospital but after our recent experience we will never go back. I took my husband to emerg room on Oct 17, 23 around noon. He had slurred speech an hour earlier. When we arrived there were three security guards and a police officer and a full waiting room. The security seemed to be a normal thing as there was no commotion in the waiting room. After telling them I was pretty sure my husband has a stroke, we were told to sit and wait. They called him up for a brief evaluation by a young nurse at a desk. She took his blood pressure, asked him to squeeze her hands and maybe lift his arms. There was very little done as triage. Was told to sit back down. We waited for quite a while no one was being called back and things seemed at a standstill. Knowing that with stroke symptoms time is of the essence, I asked the police officer what was taking so long and she said she would ask on our behalf. She went in the back. When she came back she said the doctor in the back said he didn't think my husband had a stroke. That doc never saw my husband or talked to him. I told the police officer we are leaving. We got up and I walked him across the street to Jewish ER. The waiting room was also full with one security guard. I told the gentleman at the desk I though my husband had had a stroke. Within minutes he was in a private triage area with three people. Then he was immediately taken back into the ER and and put on a bed. They didn't have a room in a private area for us but it didn't matter because they were paying attention to him. We knew he was safe there. From the bed in the hall they did blood work, urinalysis, xray, ekg, CT and ordered am MRI, which was all done within hours. He was admited later that day. The MRI proved he had had a pons stroke (brainstem). We spent the next 3 days at Jewish where the care and staff was exemplary. I can't say enough about how organized Jewish was. If this had been more serious or if he had had a second stroke while at Nortons, I am not sure what the outcome would have been. You have to be your own advocate. Trust your instincts."
"My husband died at Norton Hospital. In my opinion, his doctors and nurses did him a great disservice. His "team" of doctors did not communicate with each other or with him; he was given a different diagnosis/prognosis on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis. I was told on a Friday that he was all set for therapy on Monday, but when we arrived, the doctor very coldly told us that he would not administer the therapy. The doctor did not even look at my husband, he just said he wouldn't do it, turned around and walked away. Some of the nurses were compassionate, others not so much. The nursing assistants who conveyed him to another room in another part of the hospital (with no explanation and little warning) literally *ran* his gurney as though it was a go-kart as I trailed behind trying unsuccessfully to keep up with them and begging them to slow down. Their response was to laugh at both of us, making sarcastic remarks about his condition. When I reacted to their callous behavior (a muttered, despairing "Jesus Christ!"), the nurse in charge called *me* out and demanded an apology from *me* -- totally insensitive to my husband's pain and my own bewildered concern. It has been a year and I still relive the last horrific hours of my husband's life every day."
