"I went to BotoxRN for masseter botox on 3 occasions to help manage TMJ tension in my jaw and some facial asymmetry. I have to preface by saying that this is my first time getting any kind of botox and this happened several years ago, so I didn't have much information and would absolutely do more research now to find an experienced injector and at least look at their work. Don't rely on google reviews. On my first visit, I had a male injector and followed his recommended dosage. I was happy with the results so I went back 4-5 months later when I felt the TMJ pain coming back. On my second visit, the same injector recommended the same dosage as my first visit. I asked if I would need the same amount if the muscle wasn't as big as before and he told me "dosage = time", assuring me it's just the length of time the botox would last, so I followed his advice again. After about 1-2 weeks when the effects started kicking in, I noticed that my smile completely changed. I have dimples on both sides of my face and they completely disappeared. I could not smile widely at all and it kind of looked like an awkward half smile. I was panicking and arranged a follow-up visit. At the visit, the male injector came in with another female injector. I expected some kind of explanation about what went wrong but they kind of beat around the bush about maybe the dosage being too high and some migration. Looking back now, it's clear that they were trying to avoid admitting that they made a mistake. They acted like it wasn't a big deal but it wasn't a subtle change in my smile. I am giving them 2 stars because they said they don't do refunds but agreed to do my next visit for free. Because the female injector came across as more experienced, I decided to give them another shot and went in for my third visit with her about half a year later. I felt more assured because she said she was going to use a different technique and we went with a smaller dose. I had similar bad results as my second visit, though not as bad because it was a smaller dose. My dimples disappeared on one side and became very faint on the other side. My smile looked awkward again. At this point, I initially thought that I was not a good candidate for masseter botox but I have since learnt that masseter botox should NOT affect your smile. They probably hit the zygomaticus major by accident. So the 2 BotoxRN injectors either didn't know the anatomy of the face (because they never mentioned this smile muscle to me) or knew what they did wrong and did not want to admit it. Either way, it's a huge red flag that neither of them were experienced enough to avoid this mistake and I would maybe question the ethics of this business. As patients, we need to rely on our health care providers to be transparent. I lived with TMJ pain for a year because of their ignorance/dishonesty. If you are thinking of saving a couple of hundred by going to this med spa, learn from my mistakes and don't play roulette with your face. They are affordable but it's your face and it's worth paying a bit more to go to an experienced injector to get the result that you want every time."
