"Lilly, the owner of The Hair Shack has been doing my nails since I moved to Austin almost 2 years ago. My nails have never looked better or been healthier! I moved south of Dripping Springs a few months ago and still make the nearly 2 hour round trip to see Lilly. It’s just worth it since Lilly does impeccable work and is just a sweetheart of a woman."
"I will never come here to get my hair done and will be sure to share this story with friends, family, and co-workers. While eating breakfast on a busy Saturday morning at Another Broken Egg (next door), Hair Shack's owner came out and caused a huge scene about one of the tables "being in the way" of the pathway to her storefront. She yelled for all to hear on the patio that she would call the police if the table wasn't moved and took pictures of the people sitting at the table (without permission). She came back again moments later aggressively confronting a server and began screaming that her customers couldn't get by. I asked her if she was the business owner and she told me yes. I suggested this was not an appropriate way to handle the situation, especially considering we were in a public setting with families and several small children. She replied, "I don't care!" in regards to how her remarks affected the diners and restaurant staff. My family and I left the restaurant visibly shaken because she was so disrespectful and nasty toward the staff and their guests. I can understand the request of wanting the table to be moved for her customers to "get by" a little easier, however, the table was not blocking her customers by any means (and was moved there in the first place because it was raining!). There is a way to communicate with others and this was in no way it. I am embarrassed for the owner as this hostile exchange will be sure to cost her business. Rating Hair Shack 1/5 because Google does not allow for a 0/5 star review."
"I have done my nails at this shop for 9 years now and absolutely loved the work done by Lily each time. This beauty salon is very modern and has inviting relaxing vibe to it. Everyone there is nice and friendly. I highly recommend this place for all beauty related services."
"I really stumbled across this salon-although I work right across from it. You really have to go see Alex- he is a real magician when it comes to hair. I have been to several high end salons in Austin and he pointed out their mistakes. His cut and color are spot on. I have never felt so beautiful and received so many compliments after getting my hair done. I strongly recommend making your next appointment with Alex Hawkins- he is the best hair stylist you'll ever find."
"I think this place would be great for older women. It's got an atmosphere that reminds me of the hair place in the little town I grew up in. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was about twice as old as me. The stylists are independent, so you have to make appointments with them directly - if you call into the main number, they will give you the phone number of one of the stylists, so it's a good idea to read the reviews and choose someone ahead of time. Also, you have to pay by check directly to the stylist, and I think all the stylists are $50 for a women's cut. That was my main problem with the place - it didn't seem like a $50 hair cut. It was boring, without the fancy layering and attention to hair texture that they give you at mid-range salons. It felt like a $30 hair cut. I think you're paying for location, which is convenient. But if you you're under 50 and live in the area, I suggest Luster Hair Salon. There it is $45 for a cut, and they offer a much more professional experience."
