"Ah, where to start. I’ve been visiting Haley since before the salon’s Volt transformation. I was so impressed and delighted with her work that I tipped more than the average amount. My regular visits went on for a couple of years, as well as my tips (in the $50 range), Cue to the last month, my financials faltered as I finished a degree and I let Haley know that I was broke and wouldn’t be able to tip. She said that it was fine, there was no need, etc. On the next appointment, Haley colored my hair, and another staff member (a junior stylist) was to rinse it out, and I thought, to blow dry it, my usual service, Well, he rinsed my hair, combed it out, asked if I’d like it up or down, and then said we were done. I had to leave the salon with long wet hair, with no prior warning or agreement on such, I should have known better, but in this my graduation week I made an appointment for my graduation gig. I thought, surely I wouldn’t be left without dry hair when I’m due to hit the commencement a few hour later…. Well, again I was passed to the junior stylist for a blow dry, and what I got was unlike any blow dry I’ve had. In fact, it was a textbook example of how to cook hair, In that uneven sections were dried at unusual angles with the hairdryer end right on top of it, and moved from side to side and also held under the tress, to blow loose bits against the line, The hair was so wet with full power applied to it that columns of steam were rising, and I could smell it burning, and I was wearing a mask. So, my hair feels cooked, like fine straw, it’s also flat as a pancake. This is my hair for graduation tonight. All for $125 after I interrupted the hair-damaging session and disputed paying for the blow dry. I got half off. Anyway, I’m not sure what the moral of the story is. Is it: never tip a hairdresser more than $5? Or never tell your hairdresser you’re graduating? It’s hard to tell, But one thing is sure: my hair was cooked by steam and close-applied heat in Volt on Main today. I’ll let you make your own conclusions about the rest."
"I love the vibe and people at Volt Salon. I leave there feeling beautiful and really value their expertise on my hair. Kellie is the best!"
