"Took a detour on the way to Austin for these burgers. Unfortunately, after spending over 1.5 hours, it wasn't entirely worth it. However, the 'low and slow' burger was delicious, and the fries were decent, too."
"This is difficult and unfortunate for me to post because pops has been around for awhile, And I quite enjoyed their food when they were relatively new on the scene. I'd like to start out with the positives, I placed my order over the phone and went to pick it up. There was a long line of people waiting to place their order at the counter, and there was no pickup station. However a young lady offered to take my card to pay for the order and brought my food out to me which was very nice. The interior is well decorated with a comfortable feel. Now for the unfortunate. I placed an order for a Philly cheesesteak, and a double meat burger with two slices of cheese, with bacon and barbecue sauce and grilled onions. I made it a combo so it came with fries and a drink, and also ordered a side of onion rings for my wife to go with her Philly, and she was really looking forward to them. Upon bringing the food home, my disappointment started when I took the items out of the bag. The fries and onion rings were at the very bottom of the bag and both had become limp and soggy. The onion rings were more like onion straws and were a mushy mess, The fries also were limp and soggy and had zero seasoning. I immediately put them into my air fryer, and gave my wife her sandwich while I started into my burger. Both of my patties were dry, and crisp around the edges. I had asked for two slices of cheese and either only received one, forgot two of the smallest pieces of cheese right on top of each other. For my bacon I only received one slice, which was very disappointing. The bacon itself was good, but paying for bacon on a burger and only getting one slice was disappointing, when the industry standard is two. If it's their policy to pay by the slice, then it is overpriced, but I'm sure it meant to have two. If that is their policy, then it would be nice to be able to look that up online, but for reasons that avail me, as long as they have been around, they have no dedicated website at all, so I had to figure out what I wanted by zooming in on pictures of the menu from Google. They have a Facebook page, but the pictures of their menu are very out of date so I didn't trust it. The barbecue sauce, while a good flavor, would have been sparse for a single patty, let alone a double meat, and since the Patty's were already dry, I had to put mustard on it so that I didn't feel like I was biting into sand. My wife's Philly was good, and I'm sure if it was called Pop's Philly Stand, this would have been fine. In the end. I paid over $30 for a bag of mostly disappointment. It was not long after I placed my order from the time I picked it up either, a total of approximately 25 minutes, after being quoted 15 minutes until my order was ready, so it was not as if the food had been sitting out a long time. I know that pops has a lot of loyal customers, and I am glad for that because I support small business, and one this establishment to be around for a long time, but if tonight's experience is indicative of the direction they are going, then I unfortunately believe they have an expiration date."
"The place is old and that's part of its charm. There's a lot of memorabilia to look at, but the light is low making it somewhat difficult to see it all. Plus I don't love low light in a restaurant dining room. The staff was kind, patient and helpful considering this was our first visit and we took a while to take in the menu. The burger was ok, and the onion rings were pretty good."
"I recently dined at Pops Burgers in Waxahachie, and my experience was rather average. I opted for the Low and Slow BBQ burger, which, while decent, felt like a standard burger with BBQ sauce. The onion rings were also on par with mediocrity. My wife and daughter tried the Pops burger, which unfortunately didn't stand out either. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, but it didn't leave me eager to return. The atmosphere had a kitschy vibe, adding a unique touch to the dining experience."
