Bandera General Store
About the Business
Bandera General Store, located at 306 Main Street in Bandera, Texas, is a historic institution with a rich past. The building, constructed in 1907, retains its original wood floors and tin tile ceiling. Over the years, it has served as a saddle shop, feed store, appliance store, and even a movie theater. The basement now houses "Arkey's Silver Dollar Saloon," one of the oldest honky-tonks in Texas.
Visitors to the Bandera General Store can step back in time at the antique 1950's ice cream fountain, one of only 11 left in Texas. Offering a variety of treats made with Blue Bell Ice Cream, the fountain is a unique feature of the store. Additionally, the store boasts the only bookstore in town, with a selection of modern fiction, biographies, and Texas/Bandera history books.
In addition to books and ice cream, the Bandera General Store offers a large food section featuring locally made jams, jellies, hot sauces, honey butter, and spices. Visitors can sample and purchase these unique food items, as well as a variety of gifts. Whether you're looking for a sweet treat, a good book, or a taste of local flavor, the Bandera General Store has something for everyone.

"Lovely store ..a must to visit ..staff was so nice ."
"I would leave negative stars if I could. One of the employees yelled at a child for squeezing a squeak toy that was on display. She literally yelled at a child and jerked the toy out of his hand. If you visit Bandera, feel free to skip this place."
"Ice cream at an old "Woolworth" atmosphere. Very friendly staff! Very helpful and loved the smiles Kids love to stop here and choose scoops of different flavors, kinda like a little Baskin Robbins, fun place to grab a break from the day. Lots of unique gift idea items offered for sale here. Boots! Nice experience! ☆☆☆☆☆"
"Besides ice cream and cowboy boots, this is a fun store to visit if you can handle tongue-in-cheek, not politically correct, patriotic & proud to be Texan stuff (signs, magnets, etc). There's a sit-down area inside and friendly staff who welcome you when you walk inside."
"A wonderful experience today at Bandera General Store during cowboy gun fight show and a perfect time to shop for souvenirs all with photo opportunities to capture Kodak moments."
