Spurgeon Hollow Trailhead KT

"I used this trailhead to access Spurgeon Hollow Lake which used to be a reasonably good place for fishing. I used to catch huge bluegills on the beds just right of the small boat ramp. But, the lake has been allowed to deteriorate into no more than an inaccessible swamp. Thick weeds grow out from the accessible banks - mostly water lilies - so far that you can’t cast over them. The dam and shoreline are not mowed so walking is dangerous. (See photo with this listing)"

"Great Family friendly outdoor place"

"We visited Knobstone Trail on a perfect, peaceful day. The temperature was lovely and we had the trail mostly (other than one other group of hikers) to ourselves. Although the trail isn't extremely well maintained, the path was clean and well marked. Spurgeon Hollow Lake was beautiful and looked like the perfect fishing spot. We caught sight of a small fishing boat out on the water. The trees and flowers were fragrant and beautiful and we saw nearly a dozen butterflies along our way. We only followed the trail for a mile or so before stopping for a creekside picnic and then returning to our vehicle. I hope to return and hike the full 11+ mile trail next time!"
