"First time here, we drove up from Indy to watch the sandhill cranes during their fall migration. This is a great setup, I am so impressed with the whole location. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot, the viewing platform is high and provides great aerial views, there is a ramp for accessibility, as well as stairs if you wanna get some gains. One can also observe without going up the raised platform, which is nice. There's a bench that allows for additional height to see over the barrier, several kids were on it looking out while we were there and they seemed to love it! There is a great informational booth there about cranes, as well as little quiz questions about cranes along the walking path. There are 2 porto-potties. Plenty of space. Everyone we met was friendly, and it was absolutely amazing to watch the cranes fly in around sunset. When we first arrived, the cranes were not in an area we could see them. We could hear some calls, but other birders there reported that the cranes were in a nearby field that had been cut. Sure enough, soon, so many sandhill cranes were flying in, landing, talking to each other. A beautiful experience, highly recommend! There are several permanent binocular viewing things there for free, they were good, and if you have personal binoculars I would definitely bring them. We stayed till dark and loved the whole experience. I feel so happy to know that such an important environment exists in Indiana for these majestic birds ❤️"

"Just loved hanging out here watching the Sandhill Cranes and just general bird watching."
"Visited on a beautiful Friday in late September to see the Sandhill Cranes. The best viewing is supposed to be early morning and the evening, but even though we arrived midday, and a little early in the year, we saw 50+ cranes from the viewing platform. We were the only ones there, so it was quiet aside from the bugle calls of the cranes. From 143, reach the viewing platform parking lot by turning north on to 1650 West, about 500 feet west of the Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife area sign. There is a parking lot, then a short, paved trail through some woods to the platform. The trail has quiz questions about Sandhill Cranes with answers posted on the bulletin board at the end of the trail. (Alternatively, skip the trail by driving past the first parking lot and on to handicap-only parking next to the viewing area.) The platform can be reached by stairs or ramp. There are several free telescopes and a small covered area for inclement weather. The decking of the platform is aging, but spot repairs are being made. The cranes are beautiful birds, awkward and graceful at the same time. We loved seeing them glide in for a landing. Worth the trip."
"This is a great place to see and photograph the Sandhill cranes in the fall."
