The John Ericsson Memorial is a park and tourist attraction located at 900 Ohio Drive Southwest in Washington, D.C. This institution pays tribute to the Swedish-born engineer-inventor John Ericsson, who revolutionized naval warfare with his design of the iron-plated USS Monitor during the Civil War. Despite his significant contributions to technology, Ericsson's legacy is often overlooked. The memorial serves as a reminder of his ingenuity and the opportunities available in a free society. Situated near the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Memorial Bridge, the John Ericsson Memorial is a must-visit for those interested in history and engineering.

"This memorial, dwarfed and surrounded by giant monuments, is for a Swedish immigrant who is largely responsible for the invention of the screw propeller which was needed to operate his ship, the USS Monitor - one of the original iron plated ships of the US Navy."
"A lesser-known memorial on the National Mall is the John Ericsson Memorial along the Potomac River near the Lincoln Memorial in honor of the Swedish-American inventor/engineer who designed the USS Monitor, the ship that ensured Union naval dominance during the Civil War. It was dedicated in 1926 by President Calvin Coolidge and Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden. The entire memorial cost only $60,000 and is made from pink granite. It's a statue of John Ericsson with three figures representing adventure, labor, and vision. There's a crosswalk and steps that take you to get a closer look."
"A little tricky to get to, but worth it! A tribute to the inventor of the propeller. An important addition to the Union's Monitor. My goal was to retake a photo that my husband's grandfather had taken in 1925!"
"Beautiful statue. Convenient parking! Insta @ajking_55"
"Great circle monument to John Ericsson. Not encouraged to get out of your car and walk up to it. Busy street and traffic circle. Good photo op."
