Reviews
"5 stars if you are into what was cutting edge architecture in the 1930s and also some "interesting" arrangements for couples living together. If NOT into these things, 1 star, as you will be baffled or bored. On the other hand, you can see this in 30 minutes, so it may be worth a try anyway. A real time capsule. Must have been beyond strange back then. (This review refers to the Schindler House only, I did not visit any other part of MAK.)"
"Amazing architectural experience, a must-see if you are interested in modernist architecture."
"I don’t know why ceiling is so low. Entire space is inspiring, a lot of details you can enjoy. Furniture is beautiful. Outdoor space is quite calming."
"This is Rudolf Schindler's house on King Street. It is closed due to an ongoing renovation. The roof seems to be redone, and it illustrates that how low the ceiling is inside the house. Interestingly, we ran into Sandra Ng and Peter Chan on the way out; they probably live just across the street from the King Road House."
"A wonderful example of early Los Angeles experimental architecture, R. M. Schindler's home and studio is a modern, minimal, and heartwarming specimen that is both historic and yet futuristic at once. It's small, but worth the trip for any true lovers of Schindler, Wright, etc. or modernist Organic Architecture. From the tilt slab concrete to the redwood roof surrounded by beautiful courtyards and gardens right in the heart of West Hollywood, this is a place to appreciate the thoughtfulness and creativity exhibited in the tiniest of details, as well as the overall composition. Helpful docents and a cute little book/gift shop."
