Larz Anderson House is a museum located at 2118 Massachusetts Avenue Northwest in Washington, D.C. It is the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati, the nation's oldest patriotic organization founded by officers of the Continental Army who served together in the American Revolution. The institution is dedicated to promoting knowledge and appreciation of American independence and fostering fellowship among its members.
Visitors can explore the rich history of the Society through tours, exhibitions, a research library, and classroom resources. The museum showcases important events in the organization's history, the contributions of prominent members, and documents and objects associated with the Society. One of the features includes the membership of British prime minister Winston Churchill.
Supporting the mission of the Society can be done by becoming a hereditary member or joining the Associates of the American Revolution Institute. Reviews
"The Larz Anderson House is stunning. We went on a weekend tour and truly enjoyed ourselves. The tours are not self guided so be sure to lookup the tour times before arriving and get there about 10-15 mins early to check your cost or run to the restroom. Our tour took about an hour and a half, but I believe they’re usually only about an hour. The house feels like stepping back in time & it was really nice to learn more local history. Definitely recommend this free tour!"
"Incredible interiors and furniture. There are only guided tours every hour (10:15, 11:15 etc), they are free and really interesting."
"This was such a wonderful visit. I did the guided tour so that I could see all of the rooms. Our docent was lovely and unfortunately don't recall her name. Tour is about an hour, and not only were we able to ask lots of questions, but we were able to take pictures as well. As a native of the DMV I haven't heard of this place but so happy that I stumbled across it. It's definitely worth a visit!"
