"Dr Hekman and his staff are the best. I've always felt like they really care and listen to my concerns."
"I moved here a year ago with my 11y.o. I didn't know any doctors here and took the first doctor with an opening to establish care for both myself and my daughter. We were lucky and found Dr. Hekman. He's literally the best doctor I've ever had. He genuinely cares and wants to help every single time either of us have been. He's so patient with kids and knows how to talk to them to make them comfortable. He's the first doctor I've ever had take me seriously and not treat me like I don't know myself or how how I'm feeling. I don't know how we got so lucky, but I'm so relieved to finally have a doctor who wants what's best for me and my child. I'll see him as long as he's practicing. All the staff we've met are also super helpful and kind."
"I was amazed at the negative feedback at this location, for Dr. VanGemert or Dr. Hekman. Dr VG is my primary care doc, she is diligent, caring, and does her best in my opinion. I've never had issues with medication refills. Her nurse Meg is always a pleasant, caring person . I had Dr. Hekman once and he was genuinely concerned with my issue and such a compassionate young man. There are issues everywhere since covid I'm afraid, but I think the docs and the office don't get a fair shake with these negative reviews."
"My aunt is 70 years old and is homebound. She can barely get out of bed, has frequent falls at home and has trouble getting to the bathroom on time. She has not been eating and cannot drive. She depends on my mother to take her to doctors appointments. My mother lives on the opposite side of town as my aunt. My mother decided to go with my aunt to an appointment at this office so they could talk about social services to get my aunt placed in a home among other things. Since my mom does not live on this side of town she got lost on the way to the appointment. Knowing that the two of them were going to be late my aunt called to give the office a heads up they were running late, the woman they talked to said that would be fine and to go ahead and keep the appointment. When they arrived, they were ten minutes late. They woman in the office told them the appointment was canceled. She gave them no grace and would not listen to any explanation. The waiting room was empty. My aunt explained she was sick and needed to see a doctor. My mother explained they were lost on the way. They woman in the office would not listen and gave no compassion for the situation. Why work in health care if you cannot listen and provide compassion? What a terrible way to treat someone in need."
"I went here to establish new care and get a general wellness visit which is fully covered by my health insurance. I received a phone call ahead of my appointment saying the doctor had covid and wanted to know if I wanted to do a virtual visit or reschedule my appointment, but that I could not see any other doctor they had on staff as this was not part of their Policy (red flag #1). I proceeded with my rescheduled appointment and asked a general question regarding a common medicine and dosing, the doctor (Daniel Hekman) proceeded to google the standard dosing for this while I was in the room (red flag #2). I didn't think much of this at the time and kind of shrugged it off. The real problems came in when I received my bill for this service. I was not only billed for my standard visit, but was billed for additional time spent with the doctor (extended appointments) twice for the same visit. I was in the room for maybe 15 mins with him being in the room for maybe 10 mins (red flag #3) most of which was him asking family history and googling an answer to my basic question. This ended up resulting in my insurance not covering the visit due to the extra charges for the additional (fraudulent time he supposedly spent with me). I figure to myself, okay no big deal this should be easy to resolve, however upon calling into the billing center I was told okay no problem we will get this re coded and a new bill sent out. 3 months go by, no new bill so I figured they must have resolved this and my insurance paid for the visit. Come to find out I get a new bill in the mail which is a exact copy of the original. So I call back in and apparently there is no record of my previous call and complaint (red flag #4). So now I have to submit another claim to get these fraudulent charges removed. I tried to call the office to simply explain the situation to them and see if they can review the visit and adjust the billing and received all kinds of attitude saying they can't do this and it is not their job, wondering why people keep calling them (Red flag #5) as this has obviously happened before and pretty regularly if they know exactly what I'm talking about when calling in. 5 months later I'm still trying to get this issue resolved from my basic wellness visit. TL:DR find a new doctor and health network as this doctor and network are full of Red Flags and fraudulent charges for services not performed."
