"My daughter is in her first semester at OCTC and she has a class with Kenneth Johnson. She wrote a research paper over 3 weeks while she was sick with this horrible virus going around. She worked very hard on this paper and was trying to get it perfect while juggling work and school. She was making final tweaks on the paper and was trying to submit it. She ended up having technical difficulties and it submitted right on time but without the attachment, so she ended up submitting it two minutes late. Kenneth Johnson, her writing class instructor will not grade it which will leave her with a failing grade. She is an A student. I understand there are deadlines, but this is unreasonable. In my entire college and professional career I have never experienced anything like this. I know this is the way Mr. Johnson believes life works, but in actuality it is not. In life things happen and everyone makes exceptions. No employer is that stringent on deadlines. I understand Mr. Johnson wants to set an example but this doesn’t teach a life lesson. This only reinforces that people are cruel and like wielding power over others."
"I've had a pretty excellent experience taking classes here so far. The campus and scenery are quite beautiful as well."
"My experience with OCTC & TRIO has been the best college experience anyone could ask for. Friendly, helpful staff. I love Trio, all the ladies there are great Becky, Lindsey, and Mary! Thank you all for everything you do for us students!"
"I'm so angry I thought maybe the review would help me cope. I wasted a lot of time getting enrolled, in plenty of time to get all ducks in a row. Got the financial aid done months in advance. Enrolled, email with 2 employees, got my schedule. The email chain was lengthy between my advisor and a few with the Program Director. Program Director would never make time to meet with me even via google meet; she just would not respond except with excuses to why she hasnt made an appointment for me. I would tell my advisor, "hey Im not getting anywhere and im not hearing back from anyone." After weeks of emails trying to get their attention, it got to be the day before school starts. My advisor says "what's your name and degree?" And then told me i wasnt registered! I HAD MY SCHEDULE! I didnt not respond after that. I called financial aid. They let me know I would not qualify.. I was out of time to make other arrangements besides cash. Financial aid literally could have told me that I wouldn't qualify on day one of my initial call as I had attended 20 years ago. Had I known in the beginning how I would be treated , denied, ignored, I would have applied with Ivy Tech! You cost me dearly. I had actually put in notice to my job to accommodate the program schedule in August!! Now I know what discrimination feels like."
"Everything you could hope for from a community college. Great classes and teachers. Classes are cheaper than any 4 year college and credits are guarenteed to transfer to other local colleges. It has wonderful student support services and it's tutoring center in the best in the tri-state area."
