"After your prototypical verb conjugation oriented classes of High School French… the Berlitz method that is taught at this school is more to my taste. As long as you prepare with the vocabulary for that week’s lesson, Stacy does a wonderful job of pacing the class so that everyone participates. For those who feel a bit timid, she gently takes the pressure off by leading you through the vocabulary. Case in point, my husband is willing to come to French lll this fall! I’m so glad I happened upon their ad at Brewpoint last year. I would definitely recommend as long as you are willing to add some work on the back end, it should be an enjoyable process."
"Stacy is an outstanding educator! I thoroughly enjoy the classes, for both her pedagogy and the student comaraderie. Stacy always prepares meaningful and well structured classes."
"I'm thrilled to have discovered Institut français d'Oak Park thanks to Google. The French class I'm taking right now, Beginning French Conversation 1, has been fantastic! The once-a-week in-person classes are what I'm attending. An lovely French café-themed classroom with French music playing in the background is present. It's been great working with Stacy, who always delivers clear, interesting lessons. Even though each class lasts an hour, the time flies swiftly. For individuals who want to practice the weekly vocabulary more and keep going through the examples, an hour and a half or two hours would be ideal. Institut français d'Oak Park's courses are something I will surely continue to take."
"I just wrapped up Beginning Conversation level 1 and chose to do the in-person class due my learning preference. I took French for 5 years back in school and was interested in learning the language again (since much of it was forgotten). I love the small class size; it is very intimate. At first, I was slightly terrified when on the first day of class, the first 15 minutes were all in French, however you really do start picking up the language quickly with this teaching style. It is a very relaxed and open environment, everyone felt very comfortable asking questions and reading out loud. Week after week, you get to know your fellow students and it was great building those relationships while learning the language. I truly enjoyed going each week and Stacy is a wonderful teacher and extremely patient. Merci!"
"I’m in week 5 of Beginning French Conversation 1, having never taken French before, and am thoroughly enjoying it. Stacy is a great teacher and keeps the class fun and on task. She provides other online resources too, which are worthwhile and entertaining. My wife, who speaks some French, is impressed with how much material is being covered. At an open house, I had asked how much homework time is typical, and the answer was 15 minutes a day would be good. I find I’m spending about 30 minutes a day (sometimes more) just because I’m enjoying the learning. The other students are engaged, and the zoom format is working well; Stacy uses the zoom whiteboard to explain things, which is helpful to see and hear at the same time. She has lots of exercises to engage students. Great class!"
