"A public space in Chicago, in the USA, state of Illinois. Located between the Realtor and Wrigley buildings, the plaza was dedicated in 1963. The plaza has a statue of Benito Juárez, a fountain, and flags of the nations in the Organization of American States. Jorge Marín's Wings of Mexico was installed in the plaza temporarily in 2022. The towering 15ft tall, five-ton bronze statue of Benito Juarez dominates the Plaza of the Americas, which is located off North Michigan Avenue on the north side of the Wrigley Building. Sculpted by Julian Martinez, it was gifted to Chicago by the Counsel General of Mexico and installed in 1999. It replaced a 2.5-foot bust of Juarez previously installed on the same site in 1977. The bust is now on display at Chicago's National Museum of Mexican Art. Who was Juarez and why does he rate such a prestigious position in Chicago? Juarez, a Zapotec Indian, was Mexico's first president, serving five terms. The Plaza of the Americas was dedicated in 1965 and recognizes all of the Latin American cultures that are represented in Chicago, especially its large Mexican population."
"A nice place that includes a little bit of America the continent."
"Beautiful place. Recently a new sculpture created by internationally renowned Mexican artist Jorge Marin. The sculpture symbolizes the journey taken by migrants."
"If you ever get to Chicago,, this a nice place to see, with tall beautiful buildings, a great Plaza, and flags flying high. Plus, the buildings offer shelter from the wind if you hug them close enough...... !"
