The next week I was able to go in and take a tour of their Model Unit with Ebony and she was very kind, and patient as she answered all of my (many) questions. We are proud to be able to say that very soon Whitcomb Terrace will be our new home!"
"Omg where do I begin with this apartment complex?? Let me just say this.. that model apartment they most likely show everyone is an absolute LIE compared to what I was given. I was looking for a renovated 1 bedroom apartment and did not want to pay more than $1200 since it was only myself preoccupying the apartment. However, after the leasing agent Ebony gave us a tour of the model apartment and seemed so honest and friendly, I was happy to wait 2 months for the next renovated 1 bedroom to become available. Most people would feel blessed to have 2 walk-in closets but for $1,262 plus $52 for utilities (total of $1,314 per month) plus electricity, I was extremely disappointed to see the numerous paint splotches in both walk-in closets. I brought this to the property manager, Tamara Toomer’s, attention within the first week of moving in and we attempted to set up a time for maintenance to come back out to repaint. However, Tamara ended up going on vacation for several days and we never finalized a time for maintenance coming out even upon her return. There were also large differences in paint on the ceilings of the living room and dining room (will try to upload video soon). I requested to live on the first floor for the convenience but I instantly regretted it once I discovered the front building door DID NOT LOCK PROPERLY!!! I emailed the property manager Tamara about this immediately and she CLAIMED maintenance came out and fixed it. Maintenance is apparently extremely incompetent because the front building door still was able to be pushed open so easily despite the door being locked from the inside. Not to mention the inside of the door had a piece of wood which did absolutely nothing to help secure the door properly and was extremely tacky! For this complex charging as much as they are, I expected so much more. The laundry room also looks like a hot mess. I regret not capturing a picture of it! The biggest problem of all was the bug problem!!! Again, please see pictures below that show an excessive amount of bugs that I had to sweep up mainly near the balcony area because the trimming around the balcony area did NOT go all the way down to the floor boards (please see photo below). It’s obvious that the countless number of bugs were coming in through those crevices. I emailed the assistant property manager, Taylor Krivanek, who by the way was the only person who genuinely seemed concerned about the issues I was having with my apartment. Taylor advised me to submit a maintenance work order request through their app and maintenance will come out to take care of it WHICH THEY NEVER DID! They never reached out to set up a time. The bug issue became so bad that I was finding so many outside bugs in all rooms EXCEPT the bedroom. I eventually tried to resolve the issue myself since maintenance didn’t care to follow through so I bought numerous RAID foggers and had to bomb my entire apartment. It seemed to help for about 2 days but then they started coming back. I found so many of them in the dining room and living room under and around my couches. I was so uncomfortable living there that I packed some bags and went to stay with my parents all the way in Chicago for a week until I could figure out what I was going to do about the apartment. I was feeling stuck because I signed a lease but I refused to feel stuck there considering I was paying a lot to live there for such a sh*tty experience. This apartment complex equals something I could have gotten in the hood of Chicago for $800. This apartment complex outta be ashamed of themselves for showing prospective tenants a gorgeous apartment and giving them a complete piece of sh*t. I was SO happy they offered a 30-day satisfaction guarantee so I was able to move out within a month and I found a much better apartment a few miles away. I have absolutely no bug issues, security issues, or noisy neighbor issues. Oh and I’m paying $200 less! I was so impressed by Ebony initially and now realize that that leasing office is full of a bunch of con artists. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!"
