"The Klopfenstein Inn is still a nice hotel... But note the photos do not reflect all the rooms... the 2nd floor is long term stays * like apts. *. The lower floor has daily check in & short term stays. The parking is limited due to construction for a new wing on the attached Klopfenstein furniture store, good items and selection... Carpets are a bit worn down... there is a very nice, modern style lobby - but it has very, very limited daytime staffing...a phone is provided both at the front desk outer entrance doors to contact the staff. Please note *** this motel does not have a credit card reader for chip , magnetic strip or tap & go*** your card number is typed in by the clerk with the computer check in monitor facing a massive mirror for all to view the information. One more item, as to parking , the motel has great lighting at the main entrance, but some of the lowest level lighting for the main parking area. The motel has added back the OAK salon... they do a great job on both men & women's hair. They used to have a breakfast service ( hard boiled eggs , toast, cold cereals, milk, coffee, tea, hot chocolate ... they dropped down to coffee, tea, & coco ...they stated it was Covid restrictions...other motel chains we have been at were able to still run breakfast service with Covid adaptations... It is very hard for small motels to make ends meet. Do not get us wrong, It has nice beds - Queen, none larger, A large outdoor pool - deck, around the pool has been patched many times, chain link fence is in need of repair ( very limited season - opens late, closes early - not posted hours , but operational hours), staff that doubles as the cleaning crew ...who we have seen putting in the extra effort to get the motel ready - this is part of the reason for the unstaffed front desk . Even with broken and mismatched wall lights and leaking drain pipes, now and again, as with almost any older motel - we still stay with them. You may have only 24 or 27 TV stations, just bring a ROKU or use the wifi. Even though they list this motel as Non smoking , all you have to do is look around the parking lot to see the cigarette butts..Yes there is smoking in the rooms...Like so many of the smaller motels still in operation. Please do expect a Holiday Inn , Hilton or Micro tel... it is just a older motel being spruced up to bring it up to modern standards .... The Family that owns the motel no longer are the motel managers, that has been placed in the hands of hired staff... after our many stays , It is not the same as when the owners family ran it...we still recommend the motel , but you be your own judge. Adding to this: The room locks , on the outside ( hallway area ) can have their tops ( plastic portion, where you place your card to get in ) pulled off by hand and the lock power system can be fully open to anyone without use of tools. *** This was an issue , some of the locks had to be corrected on the bottom floor , near the south most door #3 and entrance door area by the OAK Salon?... Camera system installed right after this issue. Hope they changed them throughout the motel. As to being a non smoking hotel , they have ash trays mounted on the walls next to the entrance doors. Look it over for yourselves, it may have been corrected ( The construction on the furniture store is done but parking is limited. Also do not try to get out or in the hotel when the local business workers - from Magnavox Business park - get to or go home from work. The traffic light at Illinois Rd. & Magnavox Way is pure gridlock.)."
"Don't book event here! Booked a event room for a baby shower. Rooms had large amount of full boxes and extra lamps/furniture piled up in kitchen area and was told to party around it. When I even offered to move in another location the manager was so frazzled she did not want to deal with us any longer and told us to leave. After an argument manager agreed to move boxes and let us stay. Then half way thru event the ceiling started leaking water heavy. I even helped cleaning and dealing with situation. After all this still was offered a refund or any comp from any management. They never returned calls and never tried to rectify the problem. Poor management and customer service...."
"Google has this listed as a 3-star hotel with an average 4.3-star rating. On the surface that seems counterintuitive, but it works in the sense of comparing it to other hotels as this level (like say a Hampton or a Best Western) as opposed to a true five-star luxury hotel. As 3-star hotels go, this one is pretty average. It's your typical chain-hotel style room, average size, the expected wall-unit heater/AC, king bed and nightstands, desk, TV, armchair, chest of drawers, and generic hanging art; all very standard; not luxurious, but not bottom of the barrel either. There was a microwave and a mini-fridge, but no coffeemaker, which one normally expects. The mattress was comfortable, the linens were clean, the furniture was all in good condition, and the towels and bathroom supplies were adequate. It was quiet all night. Also, it turns out that the property is attached to a giant furniture store, which appears to be the Klopfenstein family's main business, so if you're bored you can walk down the hall and browse the furniture showroom. On the day we booked, the room rates were priced well below the average local rate for this level of hotel, making it quite the deal. I wish that meant I could give it five stars, but I have to knock a star off for the following flaws that could mostly have been easily rectified. The bulbs in all the lights are daylight LEDs, which made the room look and feel antiseptic and institutional. The wallpaper was peeling significantly. There was no in-room coffee, as mentioned above - although, to be fair, very good free coffee is available in the lobby. The Wi-Fi is unsecured, and the staff were a little defensive about it. The shower water pressure is pathetic and hard to rinse with. And when we departed at 7am, there was no staff present to check us out, and no folio slipped under the door, so we have to just trust that the charges are going to be correct. It's not that other hotels at this level don't share some of those problems. After all, this is a generic USA road traveler hotel, not the Plaza. It's fine for what it is, and I'm still giving it four stars, but I can't really bring myself to call it a five-star stay."
"Awesome location and had a great rate for a Friday night. Booked through Hotels.com and had a flawless check in. Everything struck us as family-run and family-focused here. Everything was clean, yet seemed like they were planning to invest and improve upon the environment still- and we admired that. Bed were comfortable, access from road was easy, and check-in/out was painless. If we need to stay in Ft Wayne again will definitely consider a return!"
"The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful and the small refrigerator was handy. An upscale shopping center was nearby as well as restaurants and gasoline station stocked with snacks. I appreciated the convenience of the location and the cost was fair."
