Townsend Food Center

"The area is very fortunate to have this general store in their neighborhood. The selection of food items and household items had me thinking of the general store that use to be in my little town years ago. I stopped to purchase Mullens imitation French dressing having driven an hour from the southern direction. This regional dressing is made in Illinois and Townsend food center is the farthest south store to carry it. While searching through the store for the first time, I witnessed many regional brands like Mullens that are stocked along with the big name brand items. I highly recommend anyone to visit this unique store and search the shelves and isles and take home these unique items that you won’t find at Walmart or Kroger. Yes the place is old, and some lights inside don’t work, and the meat cooler is not packed, but knowing that Kroger has 20% of their meat go past best by date so it gets reduced or discarded this doesn’t bother me. I’m guessing they Will special cut your meat order."

"Nice staff, every day they are in a great mood, and smiling. They are happy to to help you in any way. Townsend’s has the best choice of meats, and are cheaper than any other grocery store. I would recommend for a person to shop there."

"They have the BEST homemade sandwiches! HUGE Sandwiches for a GREAT price! The store is unique and has just about anything you need like Everyday Groceries, fresh meats, fresh produce, A fantastic Deli , fishing supplies, cigarettes and more! It’s a family business and they are incredibly friendly and so are most of the customers too!"

"The owners and the workers are helpful, friendly, and will do whatever they can to help you get what you need. Great sandwiches at the meat counter. But bar none you will not find a better place to buy meat. The bottom steak or pork chop or chicken tender will be as nice as the one on top. The owner is one of the last full service butchers around. If you are ever through Dixon, take a cooler and buy some steaks. You will NOT be disappointed."
