"**3 year update** We build this deck in 2021 using the Rainier collection. This new product they have with the invisible fasteners wasn't available when we purchased but i still would have made the same decision because we explicitly choose this system due to the fact the sub structure would be completely dry and protected from water, the stones in the collection we used are also solid throughout. Overall I'm happy with the installation, its been a few winters and we haven't had any cracking or issues, the deck as been maintenance free since we installed it. We have had some issues now with the polymeric sand, which i think the self leveling calking is probably the way to go. During installation, we used a 48" sliding rail wet saw with a diamond blade on it. The cut line would have duct tape on it to prevent significant chipping. we overbuilt the the sub structure a bit to ensure there isnt any heaving during the cold months. For stairs we did box framed stairs instead of stringers and that has worked out well. The edges of the deck are finished with hardie board and the deck is about 24" off the ground. The 3/4" plywood which is placed over the substructure before the EPDM sheet is completely painted and the screw holes of the bullnose stones are filled with silicone along with the SS screw (to prevent rot). Underneath the deck it still looks brand new and bone dry. We store stuff underneath there now which is a great plus. As you can see from the photos there is an octagon in the floor plan, this made significant challenges due to adding angles i would not recommend if you are a DIY er like us. Think about how in the X axis the deck is level and then in the Y axis there is a slope now draw imaginary horizontal and diagonal rectangles in the plane and realize some points will be at slightly different heights (create some rocking in real life) which required us to shim with cut pieces of EPDM. Same issue with the railing which we delayed over the covid years but I've designed it and will post an update maybe when we put it in this summer. But overall there is a 35mm drop from the front of the deck to the furthest point from the house. The railing needs to account for this and basically the railing posts need to gradually get taller to create a level railing, we are going with side mounted posts and a horizontal steel cable tensioned railing."
