"My dad has dementia, No contact with doctor! Nurses have been super nice! We live in Athens, his office is in Decatur. Our drive to the hospital to where my dad is one and a half hour where he will only talk on a screen. His office is 30 min from us!!!Seriously ! My dad went in being able to feed himself with a fork, shower and shave himself. Shaving was a little hard because he would cut himself. Now…my dad mumbles, stutters. Can’t eat with a fork at all. Very sedated when we visit. Yet when we call they tell us he is up just walking around. They took him from the nursing home because he was trying to get out and become aggressive taking window knobs off the windows. So they are trying to get him to not be aggressive while being redirected which I understand that! But to be that sedated to the point he is, is not except-able. The doctor needs to communicate with the family! ."

"Medication regimen was spot on for my son. Careful titration of new meds was brilliant. Communication with team and family was poor. Most of what I learned about my son’s care, and unusual 4-week stay, was hearsay from my son, or a social worker who was overwhelmed and only got updates once a week or less, despite my having repeatedly asked to have a ONE conversation directly with the physician. Not one word from the physician for a month-long hospital stay. I spoke w the CRNP repeatedly, and they were helpful and supportive of my request, but I had questions only the MD could assist with. This policy of no-contact with parents needs amending in cases where patients have an extraordinarily long stay. -S.Delacey, FNP, DNP"
