"This store is a bit larger (and cleaner, more modern) than other ABC stores and I was able to find Cachaça 51 and Licor Cuarenta y tres in this well organized store. The store clerk knew the store inventory by heart, was helpful, and laughed at one of my jokes. Alcohol is in Alabama more expensive than in most other states. The government-run liquor stores (ABC Select Spirits) offer the cheapest, legal liquor in Alabama. The existence of ABC stores and the high tax rates on alcohol are evidence that the temperance movement is still alive and kicking in Alabama, although tamed by the interest in tax collection.
