"We were in the Bloomington Indiana store on Monday the 19th 2022 and encountered a very rude young man working there. We were talking with our cashier because some of the items I had were not marked and she was working with us on prices. I had asked about a price on a kitchen appliance that had come into the store in 2021 and if she could come down some on the price and she told me she could come down to $25.00 from $29.99 and I was fine with that. That's when the young man came up and asked her if she was ok and she said fine. She asked him if he could wait on the customer behind us, which he started to do. Then she showed me a flat of 12 jelly for canning. All 12 had rings but only 2-3 had lids. The price was marked $9.99. I knew I had seen the same thing at Rural King with all rings and lids for $10.93 just two days earlier. So I mentioned that to her to see if they could come down just a little. That's when the young man said "then why don't you go somewhere else". Even the cashier looked taken back. I tried to explain that 94 more was the price at Rural King with all the rings and lids. Then he said again "just go shop there then". Now I would have understood if she couldn't come down some, I would have just said no thank you. There was no need to get rude like that. Our order without the jars was just over $30.00. My husband was really upset and said "keep it all then" and we left."
"There's a lot great to say about salvation army and it's mission to help the community. The store itself is a great asset to the community. The store has also seen a change of management about 5 times over the last 5 or 6 years, and the most recent management seems to be heavily motivated by profit. This would be normal for a business, but salvation army is actually a charitable organisation. Along with profits it's supposed to be their mission to help the community through reselling items donated to them. And this is taking place and working fine. One of the appeals of the store is being able to occasionally find some decent/nice things at a really affordable price. When I see jackets priced at $40 I think it's too much. I think it's pricing out the people who stand the benefit the most from that jacket. Maybe I'm wrong. Who am I to say it's a bad decision. I don't know the problems management might be facing, maybe they're trying to save up to expand the building to get more floor space or something. The reason I gave a 3/5 is the current manager has also been outright mean to one of my friends and on another occasion very curt with yet another friend. I certainly won't be sending any more friends there. They both called me on the phone to complain."
"Friendly staff... you can find good deal sometimes"
