Teichner Preserve: The Leelanau Conservancy
About the Business
Located at 5234 South Lime Lake Road in Cedar, Michigan, the Teichner Preserve is a part of The Leelanau Conservancy, serving as a beautiful park and tourist attraction. Visitors can explore the 28 natural areas and preserves, offering a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, and snowshoeing. The institution believes in the healing powers of spending time in nature for both the mind and body.
The Conservancy's mission is to conserve the land, water, and scenic character of Leelanau County. They began their work 33 years ago to save Victoria Creek, also known as the Cedar River or the Solon Swamp, with the help of passionate citizens. One of their preserves, Hatlem Creek Preserve, near Glen Lake, features spongy wetlands and an old two-track trail for visitors to enjoy.
Founded in 1988, the Leelanau Conservancy is dedicated to protecting the unique landscape of the Leelanau Peninsula for future generations. Members like Tom Balazs and Liz Ketterer feel a deep connection to Leelanau and the community, with the Conservancy becoming a part of their way of life. They give back by becoming Sustainers Circle members in 2018, contributing to the conservation and maintenance of the beautiful outdoor spaces they love to explore.

"Short trail on gravel and boardwalk through woods and wetlands takes you to lovely views of Lyme Lake"
"Beautiful short trail and boardwalk to a view of lime lake with clear water and interesting old boards along the shore that provide habitat for fish and other critters. Beautiful in the fall colors! Tamaracks and cattails along the boardwalk."
"Awesome place. Not the longest trail but follow the winding path to secluded lime lake. Leelanau conservancy takes great care of this trailhead!"
"Very short (.25) there and back trail to Lime Lake but this property is incredibly ecologically valuable. It's mostly forested wetland, so there are definitely mosquitoes but the flora is fantastic. Cardinal flower in the summer, different ferns all year long, beautiful Tamaracks that turn yellow in the late fall. Minimal parking but there is usually no one there! Very peaceful."
"Very short and peaceful walk."
