Pleasant Ridge Community Pool (Private)
About the Business
The Pleasant Ridge Community Pool is a private institution located at 8 Ridge Road in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan, United States. As of June 1, 2020, the Governor has issued Executive Order 2020-110 which allows for certain businesses and activities to resume, including public pools. However, the Oakland County Health Department has ordered all public pools closed in County Emergency Order 2020-11, prohibiting the opening of the community pool.
Even if the County lifts their order, there are practical considerations that need to be addressed before the pool can open, such as the training of lifeguards and necessary repairs. The institution normally begins preparing for pool season in March, with a 6-8 week process before opening.
In addition to the pool closure, summer camp at the institution has also been cancelled due to the restrictions on gatherings of more than 10 unrelated persons indoors. The Governor's order allows for day camps to resume, but with limitations that make it impossible to run a summer camp this year.
The institution's City Hall lobby hours are Monday to Thursday from 8 am to 4:30 pm, and phone hours are Monday to Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm. The institution advises residents to keep their hopes in check regarding the pool opening this summer, as there are still uncertainties that need to be addressed.

"We visit from Florida most summers. This year we were able to go and take my little kids. When we left my for year old looked at me and said “this was the greatest park ever”. She played in the shallow end of the pool with sheer joy! They opened the diving board in the deep end and everyone enjoyed that . It can get crowded in regards to seat space, but it’s nice they even offer lounge chairs and tables. My public pool never did! Great community, great place to visit, storybook place to grow up."
"Staff is underpaid, I think they should be paid more because they did an excellent job keeping everyone safe. Btw this was not written by staff."
"Amazing Waterpark. Well maintained, clean, family oriented. Great place for family fun and children parties."
"Went to the Pleasant Ridge pool on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It was an enjoyable day, except for one very unfortunate incident. While we were sitting in our deck chairs we were observing a lady who obviously couldn’t swim well. We watched her go from the shallow end, trying to make her way toward the deep end. When she reached the 12 foot cord she was extremely tired and you could see quite agitated. She was right under the lifeguards chair in the second swim lane. She was getting very agitated and struggling to keep from going under. another lady quickly came up grabbed onto her while she was still struggling trying to get her to shallower water. All this time the lifeguard in the chair was watching at one point the lady trying to help looked up at her and said I thought you would come in and help me, all that got from her was to get down off the chair and watch from the cement. It’s hard to believe that highly trained lifeguards Would freeze like this. Two out of three of them saw the whole thing.… and did nothing... to say I feel less safe would be an understatement, and to top it off when we went to say something to a manager on a Sunday afternoon when it’s busy… There was no manager."
