"Great stay! Cozy cottages with a modern touch. Clean and beds were comfortable. Nice and accommodating hosts and it was so easy to rent a pontoon for the day or more. Highly recommend!"
"The new owners as of 2019, Rob and Carrie Ross are the 4th owners in the 35 years my family has been coming to Ford's Cottages. I can say with love and respect that we adored Jim and Cathy Carpenter who became like family to us. Ray and Kim followed in 2009. Jason and Kiersten followed a few years later. All of these owners were wonderful and interactive with us. All of that changed this year in 2019. Rob and Carrie declined to rebook us next year. The explanation was that "your group would be better suited at a larger resort." The transgressions we committed? We attempted to put up a volleyball net in the same place we had for 35 years. We were told to move it to the garage area as they didnt want it in their "backyard". That would mean a small area where the kids could trip and and be injured on the border rocks. Those same rocks are the subject of another "transgression" when my daughter pulled in too far to park next to her cabin and her tire went over one of the rocks and had to be jacked up to be removed with assistance from Rob who was thanked by several people for his help but then we were told we were ungrateful for the help and the embellishment was that she "nearly took the cabin out". Also, an excuse of "several burnouts in the driveway" was given. The driveway is all stone and on a hill. Try to figure that one out. Mystery to any of us. Also, they spoke to our children and told them they had a curfew yet never said anything to any of the adults about any curfew. Bonfires? We love them. We were told we would have wood but we didnt get any unless we went for it ourselves. Garbage removal? Non existent until you tell them your garbage is piling up next to your cabins. As we always do, we went to the office on Friday to rebook for next year. Rob took our email addresses and wasn't man enough to tell us to our faces that he would refuse to book us next year. We received emails a few days later to tell us that. When I called to get an explanation Carrie was initially very vague stating "let's just say last week didn't go very well with your group". I had to pull teeth to get any details. The above was what I was told along with "We want a nice quiet resort where people are in their cabins by 10:00 and quiet. We don't want people at the fire all night long. Your family rubbed it in our faces that youve been coming here for 35 years and didn't let us be the owners. You took over." The one and only time anyone said anything about the length of time we'd been coming was when we explained that we just assumed we could put the volleyball net where we did because we'd put it there for the last 35 years. Needless to say we have booked a new place next year. We've never had any issues prior to Rob and Carrie Ross. For 35 years. That tells me all I need to know. We will continue to make our family memories together at our new resort. That's what we do. It appears that Rob and Carrie Ross wish to turn Ford's Cottages into a glorified retirement home. Thanks for a wonderful 35 years Jim and Cathy, Ray and Kim, Jason and Kiersten!!! To Rob and Carrie - I wish you well on your new retirement home. It might help if Rob got help for his Napoleon complex though. memories toge But"
"Our family has been vacationing at Fords for 35 years. We were welcomed by new owners this year who prefaced our stay with there were no changes implemented and they would pretty much stay out of our way. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, instead over the week firewood stopped being supplied, we were told in passing there was an 11pm curfew at the communal bonfire and that the previously public grassy area was now private and our volleyball net had to come down. Some of our kids we given new rules with no communication to any of the adults. Apparently the new management style is passive-aggressive backhanded comments. A few days after check out we received an email stating Fords would no longer rent to us because they want a quiet clientele that’s in by 10pm. So if you want to spend money to stay inside your cabin and have a “street lights on” curfew, then stay at Fords."
"A treasure! We loved it - we were passing through on our way to Traverse City, but want to come back and stay a week! We were welcomed by a super friendly couple who showed us around and made us feel comfortable. They answered all of our questions and told us what was going on in the area! The cute cottage had every amenity we could need - comfy beds, sitting areas, plenty of room but the highlight was the beautiful water view right out of our window. Once you stay here it will be in your mind until you can come back! My husband has a stressful job and he totally relaxed! We loved Cedarville and staying at Ford's Cottages - you will love it! Don't forget to try a Jersey Mud at the ice cream shop. One of a kind."
"Love this little gem! We have stayed here several times and have always had an excellent experience. The cabins are always clean and fully stocked with everything you need. Nice quiet location. Owners Jason and Kirsten are really sweet and helpful."
