Capri Motel - Mackinaw City

"When we arrived around 11 pm on a Friday, the staff we encountered in the lobby were not wearing shoes. They were able to check us in, but weren't sure what room we might be in. Eventually they got that sorted and we went to our room. Our room was small, as we expected, but the walls also appeared dingy and stained. There were two spiders in the bathtub; the bottom of the shower curtain was stained orange, and the bathtub had a layer of dirt on it. We had clean towels and fresh shampoo, but the top bath towel had orange splatter stains. The faucet spurted water from three different points. The bathroom floor was sticky. The lamp and alarm clock we're both unplugged. There was no phone in the room. I went back to the lobby to get the WiFi password, which was "internet." One of the staff members was in the lobby flipping tourist pamphlets in a "making it rain" gesture. He probably launched a dozen of them! His colleague told me the password, then said that the internet was weak and iffy, so I might have to connect in the lobby and then walk back to my room. Back in the room, we inspected the sheets and blankets. We decided to put extra sheets over the mattress padding, used two blankets, and slept in our clothes. With the lights out in the room, we noticed a burned hole in the curtains. The air conditioner, when turned on, smelled like mildew. That smell remained for the rest of the night, but the room was too hot (in mid August) to not have the AC on. The mattress was stiff and loud, creaking whenever you moved on it. That made for vigilant sleeping, as did the noise from loud car engines directly outside. In the morning, we noticed that somehow the main light bulb had burned out in the room. There was no breakfast when we arrived in the lobby; no one had mentioned anything about when breakfast might be served, despite the website description. As near as we can tell, it was not. The lobby was unattended; guests checking out had apparently left their keys on the desk. In time, the attendants did emerge, disheveled, from the back of the lobby, with two overnight guests. The pool was not as pictured. Overall, while our expectations were lowered given that this was a budget in and a last minute reservation, the Capri Motel slithered beneath our already low expectations. Would not recommend. F-."

"I visited this place out of desperation. I was actually shocked at the number of vehicles present when I pulled in at almost 2am. While the rooms didn't smell, they certainly didn't feel clean. Half of the lights in the room didn't work, and the ones that did are filled with bug carcasses. When I entered the bathroom I was greeted by some species of centipede that managed to escape into the room and matches the carpet so well I couldn't not dispatch it. The beds were gross, thankfully I had a sleeping bag on hand and avoided getting the myriad std's undoubtedly infesting the sheets and bed spread. I will not be returning here, unless I'm in a meth and hooker fueled evening of debauchery. In which case I'll probably have difficulty finding vacancy from the others doing the same. Spend the extra money for the peace of mind, or sleep in your car."

"I have stayed here about 5 times in the last 10 years. The last two years it has gone down hill and I don't think I will return unless it gets cleaned up. The carpet in my room left my feet black. The shower was starting to grow mold. The toilet seat was falling off and needs replaced. One morning I sat in the chair outside my room and watched the cleaning lady and manager cleaning rooms. I don't think they carried in bed sheet to rooms people have vacated. I did see towels being carried in. Last, the air conditioning units need cleaned. I removed the front cover of the one in my room and it was obvious they have no regular cleaning schedule for them. The filter had about a 1/4 inch build up of dust and the area where cold air exits has dust balls build up. Just needs a good cleaning."

"The lady at the desk was super friendly and really helpful, she gave us coupons and tips to save money. The rooms were cute, air conditioned and TV, we got to park right in front of our room and there was a grill we could use to cook food. It was super inexpensive to stay there and we were within walking distance of downtown! I highly recommend staying here for a weekend getaway, especially if you are not trying to spend a ton of money on a room"
