"While I haven't stayed here, it is a beautiful place for a meeting. The conference room overlooks the lake and is very nice. The catered food was fine - not spectacular - but also not bad. The technology and WIFI worked for everyone in our group. It was fun to walk down to the lake on our breaks."
"Best Western has ruined this historic hotel. Outdoor (unnecessary) lighting at night makes sleeping impossible. Bring an eye mask or you’ll be sleeping in daylight all night. Bed linens are hospital grade… no more comforters here… just like a hospital you must be content with a thin, white “blanket” that does nothing to help you sleep. Bring your own! No more lamps… two cheap (Menards), dim wall sconces are all you get, both on the same switch. There is now nothing comfortable to sit on in the room. Your seating is recovered hospital chairs (if you get two). Breakfast is plentiful and tolerable, but consider going out to one of the area restaurants for an elevated meal experience. Even Perkins would constitute an improvement. The staff are lovely and really believe you are having a good experience, but they have obviously never slept here!"
"My husband and I had a very limited time to truly try out everything in the hotel. But the room was clean, staff were very friendly and breakfast was great. I really liked the victorian theming around the hotel. The only reason I give the room 4/5 stars is that some of the plugs in our room didn't work, and some things in our room needed to be updated slightly. However it was still a great stay. Next time we stay, we would love to try the restaurant and pool. Definitely seems like summer/fall would be the best time to visit because of the incredible view of Lake Superior."
"This stunning hotel has been around since 1877 and is still going strong. When you walk in the lobby it's like a blast from the past. It's beautifully decorated with vintage furniture and has such a cozy charm to it. I stayed in the Red Cliff Suite. It was clean, spacious, and well-stocked. All of the amenities worked great, including the fast wifi. The television was large and swivel mounted for better viewing, and there was plenty of channels to choose from. It worked great with my Chromecast. The bed was large and comfortable, and I slept very well on it, which really can't be said for most hotel beds!"
"This is such a lovely hotel. I have stayed there twice and loved it both times. Seeing the 3-star hotel rating is surprising. This is much nicer than other 3-star hotels, including the Quality Inn down the road a bit....and it doesn't cost much more. Plus, their continental breakfast is actually a wonderful full breakfast! The restaurant was closed when we visited but they allowed us to bring a pizza in to the bar, which was lively and has a great view of the bay."
