"I called into this office to get recommendations on a specialist for my child. I called KNOWING my insurance does not require referrals. This Dr was insistent that I bring my child in for a pointless visit. When I told her I knew I didn’t need a referral she got very nasty. Yelling over me, not letting me get a word in. I have noticed a likeness among Beaumont Drs they want a visit for the smallest thing. Want lab results? Come in. Need to see a specialist even though your insurance doesn’t require it? Come on in. I’m taking my children to a different pediatrician because billing insurance should not be a number one priority."

"Staff is very friendly, HOWEVER, Dr. Umlauf-Barrera is unprofessional, pompous, selfish, and arrogant. Cares nothing for the patient and is not empathetic - quite pathetic. She will speak over you and will not give you a chance to speak. I wonder how many numerous times she has treated patients' parents like this that it's apparently so acceptable and normal day-to-day practice for her. She's a liar and as a parent I know my rights. My child is on a delayed vaccine schedule because frankly I wouldn't want to have 3-4 vaccines injected in me on any single visit!...much less to my child, and the fact that vaccine facts sheets clearing states some serious side effects for some of the vaccines. She said "there are no side effects!"...she was very bothered. I said, "then why would it be stated on this sheet and mass printed?" Clearly, I'm concerned for MY CHILD having a seizure as a result of the vaccine or a severe brain injury! As to the delayed vaccine schedule, she says "why would you want to keep coming back and break up the vaccines". That is not her concern nor her choice. She says "you HAVE to give the vaccines", I told her "no, I don't...I have gone to the Health Dept to pick up waivers due to a delayed schedule". She didn't expect that answer, and didn't say another word about that because she was caught being untruthful. Nevertheless, I had the nurse administered 2 out of the 3 vaccines, my child is still sore going to school this morning. I monitored him to make sure he was feeling ok. Dr. Umlauf never suggested that the child's vaccine area would be tender and sore for a short period of time thereafter. My child's previous doctor always stated this could be the case and demonstrated genuine empathy and concern. Dr. Umlauf never mentioned any of that. I could get more out of WedMD than Dr. Umlauf-Barrera. I believe Dr. Umlauf-Barrera just wants the money with no genuine concern for child and family. I should've cancelled the vaccines right after she walked out the door and went with another doctor in the office for a later visit...and have Dr. Umlauf receive no funds for the vaccines given yesterday. My daughter has an upcoming appointment and I've asked the staff to switch me to another doctor in the office and that if the change wasn't made I would not come back to the office. I will add that yesterday was my first visit to the office, staff and nurses are very friendly. The nurse did a fantastic job with administering the vaccines to my child - she was extremely kind and empathetic. My child's visit to the doctor was for a routine yearly physical. I was never given the form for school records. I almost left and noticed I had no paperwork to give the school, I had to go back and ask about the physical form! If I had initially set up the appt for a physical exam, why was it not annotated as such? Did Dr-Umlauf not see this or was she so bothered with me that she forgot that the visit was really about my child and for my child? I was given the physical form from the friendly attendant, and witnessed Dr. Umlauf scurry to leave for the day. Was it too late in the day for her to give proper attention to my child? One last thing about Dr. Umlauf-Barrera, she never asked if I had any health concerns or any issues with my child - which I did have a minor concern that I had expressed with the nurse ahead of the doc coming in to the room. I told the nurse that my child has a wart on his foot that bothers him. Before the second nurse administered the vaccines, I asked the nurse if the doctor was coming back she said no. The nurse noticed my disappointment and ask if there was something wrong and that she would call the doctor back. I said "yes, I have a concern." Dr. Umlauf came back in the room and suggested I placed duct tap on the wart for up to 2 weeks. In sum, Dr. Umlauf-Barrera has a pleasant demeanor and a nice smile, but don't be fooled! She's arrogant, selfish, deceiving, and lastly she was very BREIF with my child. She's not worth the payment she's getting from me for my child's visit, 100%."

"Dr. Umlauf office deserves more than just 5 stars. We have been going to her office for the last 15yrs. She is very patient and explains my childs issues very thoroughly. Always gives suggestions especially now that my child is a teenager and going thru changes. Her staff is kind and courteous and very helpful - When calling for an appointment they will try to schedule you at your convenience and even the same day if necessary. I would highly recommend Dr. Umlauf and will continue taking my child to her office ."
