"The Douglas House Inn was an absolute treasure! We were in awe of the beautifully decorated Queen Anne's home. Details, details, details! The bed was decked out in luxurious linens and the little bathroom in the room was a nice addition. The screened porch next to the garden with the running water feature made visiting well into the night a pleasure. But the best part, an amazing breakfast cooked by Rick and Ken. An asparagus quiche, fresh fruit and juice, yogurt with granola and a rhubarb coffee cake with fresh cream topping was a meal worth the stay in itself! You can't go wrong with this little hidden treasure!!"

"+ great location, + nice innkeeper, + delicious breakfast When I was looking for a cute little B&B or charming hotel in the Saugatuck area I found by coincidence the Douglas House, a hidden gem and local favorite. The B&B is just around the corner from Lake Kalamazoo and Douglas’ charming Center Street, which is a small version of Saugatuck’s downtown area. The Douglas House has four rooms (all with private bathrooms) in their Queen Anne Style house and additional rooms in the annex. The hosts Rick and Ken are very likeable and love to chat with you during breakfast or when they see you around. Both are pampering you each morning with a delicious breakfast containing fresh fruits, joghurt, cereal, super yummy pies and pastries. I highly recommend convincing them to bake their pecan coffee cake for breakfast. Don’t be confused if they do not ask for a credit card before arrival or just leave you a note at the door if they are not around while you are checking in. Rick and Ken are doing business based on trust and expect their guests to be honest and call in advance if they have to cancel instead of being a no show and pay before departure. PS: When you are around make sure you try the Wild Dog Grille and Everyday People’s Café. Moreover you shouldn’t miss the shore between Douglas and Oval Beach (Saugatuck) and the trail through the dunes north of Oval Beach. If the small ferry is not running over Kalamazoo River use the local bus (Interurban Transport Authority), which is $2 per person offers a door-to-door service."
