"This was the dirtiest place I have ever stayed in. Management (owner) was rude. First room we were given every time you turned on light the ground fault would blow. Moved to second room, pulled back sheets and the mattress was absolutely disgusting. We were told oh that wasn't there yesterday sorry. Moved to third room. All area hotels were booked could not go elsewhere."
"When we arrived at 3:30pm, our room was not ready although check in on the website says 2pm. The woman at the desk told it us check in is actually at 4pm and that I was wrong. Gave us a different room and allowed us to check in early. Got in the room and within two minutes noticed there were bed bugs. When confronted about the issue, we received the most sketchy, seedy response of any customer service rep I have ever met. Her and her coworker made every excuse in the book as to why we shouldn’t ask for a refund and just accept another room. “A dog had stayed in the room, so the bugs must have been fleas from it.” “The coworker’s mom was in the hospital and she was just so stressed out so she must have missed then when cleaning.” “This has never happened before, it must have been that darn dog” (although the hotel’s policy is no pets allowed…). When we pushed for a refund, they said if we wanted one, the manager was out of town until tomorrow and only he could do it. Then when we said that’s fine, they pushed us to stay because he can only refund us half our payment. Then when we said that was not a problem, they said he would call us maybe in the next two to three days. Needless to say, I was charged the full amount and don’t expect a refund. Lesson learned: don’t skimp on hotel costs. It’ll come around to bite you in the end (“it” being bed bugs). DO NOT stay at North Country Inn, Kalkaska. They obviously don’t care about their patrons and only care about making a quick buck."
"The plus for this place is, they let us book for just Thursday night , not requiring thurs and Friday both . There is no dead bolt lock on the door . The carpet needs to be updated . My wife says the bedsheets were minimally clean . Lots of trucks in the parking lot , it's a working class area. It was quiet there at night"
"I will start from the top. We pulled in the parking lot and the grass looks like it hasn't been mowed in months. There was no one in the office to help us check in. We waited about 5 minutes and I assume it was the maintenance man who checked us in. The room was in my opinions not good. Picture on the wall had cracked glass. Paint peeling in the room. Air conditioner didn't cool the room and was so noisy we unplugged it so we could get some sleep. Paneling was falling off the wall. Bath tub spout was not attached to the wall. You could move it around a good inch in any direction. The was a strange window above the bathtub and there was hair in the bathtub. The good things, there was a newer small fridge and microwave. When we checked out the next morning we still didn't see anyone at the front desk. Only a note saying drop keys in basket upon checking out. That room was not worth $95 and we will never stay there again."
