"My experience at Nordic Lodge was great! We stayed the weekend of October 20-22 (2023), and we booked relatively late. Gale was in charge of the front desk and she was extremely friendly and helpful; she even accommodated our early check in (1pm). When we arrived, our room was ready and was clean (we stayed on the 2nd floor in one of the king rooms). The free breakfast was good and there was a decent variety. Our room had a fridge, microwave and large flat screen TV. I'm not sure why some of the recent reviews are negative.. The ONLY things I would say is that it is a little bit outdated and the location is about a 5 minute drive from downtown sister bay, but there isn't much you can do about that. Overall, I'd say if you go into the trip with normal expectations, you will be very pleased. It seems like some people went in expecting some sort of grand 5-star hotel."
"The owners are really great, but the rest of the staff needs training. Witnessed guests being turned away for their reservation being cancelled yet were never notified and had driven hours only to be told they have no room. Also observed terse defensiveness by housekeeping over stained towels a guest found but the guest wasn't blaming the housekeeping yet the housekeeper took it personally. I have so many fond memories of this place and personally never had an issue so I felt really bad to see these things."
"My daughter and I drove 6 hours for our first Mother-Daughter getaway. Went to check in at 8:00 p.m. on August 9, for our 3-night stay and the desk attendant told me we did not have a reservation. I showed her my confirmation email with a confirmation number. She continued to explain that they had to cancel our room. She was very rude, unapologetic, and extremely unhelpful. Flatly refused to help when I asked for assistance to find another room somewhere else. She actually said, “it’s not my problem”. She blamed me for booking the room online, which was done so on their own webpage! She said I needed to call them directly. Finally in the end, she said she had 3 rooms available but for only 1 night. Of course, I took it because we were tired, and the area was completely booked. Went to our room, my daughter pulled a hand towel off the rack and earwigs came crawling out and there were a couple on the walls. If I could give this hotel a 0 rating, I would."
"This was by far the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. This was a trip for my anniversary and the whole experience was insanely bad. Be forewarned about this place: do not stay here but if you must you better call the day of your reservation to make sure they are open and or someone is working. I am completely serious. We stayed for 2 nights, well we were supposed to. In the fine print of the reservation of this place it states that check in time is until 10 pm which I found very strange. This is not the case however. After hours of driving, my husband and I attempted to check in on a Friday a little after 9 pm. After 15/20 mins of searching the whole hotel we could not find a single employee that worked at the facility. I tried calling several times. No one answered. There were postings at the front door that list a "800 number for emergencies and late night arrivals". I called this supposed emergency number. The number goes to a different resort entirely and the person who answered had no idea what I was talking about. There was a key lock box again for "late night arrivals" but my name was not included. We noticed "security" at this establishment was severely lacking. Every door leading into the building was wide open for anyone to come in. It was alarming but again there were no employees to bring this up to. We encountered many guests in our futile search to find any employees who also needed help. A guest had locked themselves out of their room. They told me as we swapped stories that someone from the place had called them earlier in the day to confirm that they were checking in that day. I never received the same treatment and never received any calls from the hotel at all. I was not treated the same way as other guests. I sat in the lobby, anxiety ramping up trying to find another place to stay since we could not get a hold of anyone nor no employees could be found when someone (it's still not 100% clear to me) claimed they "knew how to check guests in but did not work there or was not working at the time" or possibly was a permanent resident of the hotel or both tried to assist us. This young individual was drinking alcohol and was shirtless ( I wish I was making this up) but proceeded to do something and gave us a room key. He did not ask for ID or anything else. At this point my husband and I were desperate, stressed, and needed to check in so we accepted this. The room we were given was not what I paid for at all. I paid for a king size bed. What I got was two doubles. I would have gone back to the front desk in a normal situation but again, this was anything from normal and what we deserve and I knew we were not going to be able to find anyone so we unhappily accepted it. The room was dingy/shabby. The beds were very uncomfortable. There were bugs in the room and the bathroom. In the fine print of the reservation it claims there is no housekeeping due to "Covid and to keep costs low". As of May of 2023 Covid is no longer a national emergency. You cannot hide behind that as a reason to not do any cleaning or offer it at a hotel. They need to update this or give different reasons as to why. The whole place is run down and needs updating. We cannot believe this place in the height of summer is still running when employees seem to not work and or leave whenever they please. What if there was an emergency? A fire? Please do not stay here. You'll just be disappointed like us."
"After driving 3 hours, I come to find that they canceled our room randomly even though I made reservations one month prior. The front desk attendant had an attitude with myself, did not apologize, and claims not to make bookings online through their OWN WEBSITE. Had to scramble for a last second room. Based off this initial horrible experience, I give 1 star."
