"This is the Best Western Plus hotel, which with that name, invites some good hearted mockery. Granted, it’s a north woods hotel, so, this is hardly Paris. I mean, it beats sleeping in a tent. When we checked in, the receptionist was on a half hour, 10 minute break. There was a 1970s vintage bar near the lobby that was fully staffed, however. There was an extreme chlorine smell seeping into the lobby from a pool that appeared to have not been cleaned since construction. There was a couple hanging out in there and we wondered how the could stand it. Eventually we were checked in, however the room wreaked of some combination of familiar but unidentifiable smells. When I went to open the screened window, I discovered it was only partially screened. I looked to my wife who was holding her nose and decided it was too unlivable. So, I returned to the lobby and was pleasantly surprised that the attendant was still there. I ask for a different room, explaining the air quality issue. She promptly and confidently gave me a new room assignment. This one was much better as the air conditioning had been running. We brought our bags in and walked down town for a nice meal at the boat house. Later, we returned to the hotel. The same couple was still hanging out in the pool but didn’t look well. We slept well except for the tiny cubed shaped, irregularly textured pillows which were fine to sleep with by 2:30 in the morning. We slept well as I believe we were relatively alone in the hotel, other than the sound sleeping drunks from the lobby bar and the chlorine affixiated couple who either passed out or died. One of the best parts of the stay was the continental breakfast. We were so overwhelmed by the food quality and options that we went across the street for coffee. That coffee was killer, let me tell ya. It made my morning. Looking out the window at the hotel, my wife pointed out that it was the Best Western “plus” hotel and laughed. I agreed that best was questionable and there were no pluses. As we were leaving I commented to another couple that I know it’s a Best Western, but perhaps not the best ever western. The husband replied that they were the best could be western."

"Very happy with our stay. The hotel is a bit dated, but in a historical kind of way that you can tell they take pride in. It's very clean and well kept, and nothing but positive experiences with the staff. The location was central to everything we wanted to do in Minocqua."

"Best Western Plus. Good location stay was quiet too. Minocqua was spectacular from this hotels great view. Recommend this hotel for elite customer service. Full breakfast. Pool. Hot Tub. Perfect rooms and a small bar with gaming on the main floor. Ice machines on every level. Parking was great and there was outdoor private seating."
