"We had used Care N Assist / Homejoy several times in the last three years. The 1st person about 2 or 3 years ago was excellent at care giving, tidying up the house but full of drama and asking us for extra money. (we did give a couple of times but she wanted it every time), the second person they sent, would not do any tidying up, would just sit and do nothing, even leaving dirty dishes in the sink. After that, we didn't use them for more than a year and decided to give one more try as I really need a break from taking care of my Mom. They sent a lovely person, we liked her, felt comfortable leaving mom in her care. I had an appointment in Grand Rapids and let her know we would be gone several hours. When we got home, there was a strange man in our house, the caregiver was sitting with her head on the table, my mom with dementia was beside herself. The man was upset because I had not answered my phone (I had my phone turned off during my Dr. appt and had forgotten to turn it back on) He had left 7 messages demanding we get home immediately. My mom had not been fed lunch or dinner, she was pacing, upset and starving. Expecting a phone call from the staff the next day but that never happened. I only got a phone call from the caregiver asking for her "teeth". Finally got the bill for just over $200, I called and requested a break on the amount as nothing had been done for my mom and that is what she was there for. They proceeded to tell me that I should be thankful that they were able to convince the lady to stay as she wanted to leave and go home. She also said, that they couldn't find anyone to replace her so that is why her husband was in our house sitting with the caregiver. Truly wrong on so many levels!!! Do NOT USE these people."
