Reviews
"If you want a credit union that lends you money, doesn't hang up on you when you are making a valid point, and genuinely cares about you.. This is not that place. Keep looking. This credit union is known for tight wallets, hanging up on you because you made a valid point and their feelings were hurt, and they do not care about your financial well being one bit. Steer clear"
"I showed up right when they were closing to make a tuition payment I absolutely had to make that day and they closed the door in my face and said they couldn’t help me. Staying open until 5:30 is a slap in the face to anyone who actually has to work for a living and has to drive all the way to the university to make a cash tuition payment. Just terrible customer service."
"Wow, a lot of one star reviews here. I have never had an experience like the poor reviews described. It's not that inconvenient. It's in a Univ of Michigan (Dearborn) building so, true enough, you can't just screech your car up and run in. (You can do this at the Ann Arbor locations). At UMCU Dearborn, yes, you actually have to get out of your car and walk a little. Walking is good for you! Also, UMCU Dearborn is closed for lunch and their lunch-time is a little quirky, just check it before you go. Once in, I have always been treated well. In fact, I've been in twice recently, and I think their customer service has possibly improved from very good to even better. The teller earlier this week spent some time with me to explain some account offers they have. I made some changes to my account and it was easy. The ATM (down the hall) offers only limited service - withdrawals only I think. I also use this service. While the Dearborn UMCU is for all members, it offers an important service for U of M Dearborn students - especially students from foreign countries. So, give it another try, look at the big picture, and try avoid being so harsh. UMCU, whatever branch you go to, beats a bank any day of the week and twice on Sunday."
"Over all, it is probably one of the most inconvenient credit unions out there. The app is almost pointless, as you are always referred to the website to do anything past checking balances and in house transfers (at least for all first time set ups). If you need to transfer to an external account, go to the website. Need to set up a bill pay, go to the website. Need to manage a payee, go to the website. If you pay your bills with your debt card, it takes a few days to show up on your account as pending (making it easier to lose track and overdraft. As well, they have all of 4 buildings and no partnerships to retrieve physical cash (and take FOREVER to transfer between external accounts). If my wife didn't work for the U of M, I would NEVER pick this bank over more capable credit unions."
"I've had a positive experience with this credit union, overall. They were the first to approve a line of credit for me when I initially established my credit. However, I will say that customer service could be improved in areas. I've also had to contact them a few times over the years for over draft charges that were illegitiment"
