"Super frustrated after my appointment was cancelled the day of. Struggled to get a global referral from my PCP just days before, and I was set to go. Received confirmation text today saying I would see Valerie at 6pm. Finally got paperwork link sent once I called office, but my appointment had been cancelled already, and my spot was given away. I was told they called twice today, but since I teach, I cannot answer until lunch. You need to do better. There is NO reason you should have cancelled my appointment when I have been in constant contact with your office. Courtney was very helpful, I must add, as I have spoken with her 5 times between last Friday and today. One star is for Courtney's help with the dreaded global referral. Thank you, Courtney.⭐"
"They blame you for mistakes they make.. simple as that... more than once.. I paid for my CPAP out of pocket because it was told to me that my insurance would not cover it, I find out a year later that somehow I did not hear correctly.. (like anyone wants to pay out of pocket) .. now I asked them to send to one provider for supplies and they sent it to the one I asked them not to send it to.... I bet that's my fault too. In addition, they literally have an option when you call for follow up questions for CPAP machine... no one ever picks up. I need to figure out which extension they do pick up just to get to someone that might be able to help. I rather suffer a stroke from snoring than to keep going to this place. Only bright side is Jenny - she seems like the only person whoever picks up the phone."
"I am incredibly frustrated right now. Did the sleep study a few weeks ago. Got less than two hours of actual sleep. Room was ok, techs were great, bed was too firm and the room was freezing. Had other health issues waking me up as well. During those less than two hours, they detected 1 instance of obstructive sleep apnea, 20 hypopneas (shallow breaths), and 1 instance of central apnea (brain forgot to tell my body to breathe). But the 1 instance of obstructive sleep apnea is apparently enough to diagnose me with "mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome" (moderate during REM) and therefore dump me onto the CPAP treadmill. The report printout they gave me also included "helpful" options like "dental appliance to keep the jaw forward", "upper airway surgery", and the ever so useful "maybe try losing weight" as if "I am concerned that poor quality sleep is causing weight gain" wasn't one of the reasons I went in. Oh wait, they didn't write that down. They ALSO didn't write down that what I specifically asked the doctor about at my consult was "I suspect I have delayed sleep phase and that's the main reason I'm always tired - I don't usually get sleepy till after midnight." I had to explain repeatedly during that initial consult that my *regular sleep schedule* has nothing in common with my *natural sleep schedule*. My *natural* sleep schedule is getting sleepy between midnight and 2am, and sleeping in until sometime between 10am and 2pm. And if I'm not drinking caffeine first thing in the morning when on my *regular* sleep schedule, I'm too tired to effectively function. So he ordered a daytime napping test for after the sleep study, which is really a narcolepsy test, because he said that someone with narcolepsy will drop straight into REM, but if you're able to fall asleep but don't hit REM, then that might be an indicator. But apparently he didn't write down *why* he was ordering that test. So today they just told me "no REM, you don't have narcolepsy". So I got the handful of paperwork with the results of the study, scheduled for the CPAP next steps, and got sent out the door. Once I got into my car I stopped to read it, and that's when I saw that the delayed phase wasn't discussed so I called them back to ask if someone could please take a look at the sleep study results in light of that original question and get back to be about whether delayed sleep phase was indicated at all. The people at the front desk seemed very confused that I was asking them to put a note in my chart, so they just had the PA call me back. The PA said that there was no mention of delayed sleep phase in the report because it wasn't mentioned in my chart at all, not even on the notes from the original doc. She also insisted that I couldn't possibly have delayed sleep phase because I consistently get tired between 12 and 2, and she said delayed sleep phase means that the time you get sleepy is *always getting more and more delayed*. I pulled up the Mayo clinic definition while we chatted because I thought maybe I was using the wrong phrase, but no, the definition on Mayo clinic and every other reputable medical organization in the first page of Google results says the same thing: delayed sleep phase is when you *consistently* get sleepy more than 2 hours later than a normal bedtime. I asked her what exactly *is* required to diagnose delayed sleep phase if the tests he'd ordered to begin with weren't relevant. She started going on about how I don't have narcolepsy, I reminded her that narcolepsy and delayed sleep phase are not the same thing, and she basically said that now that they know I have sleep apnea they can't *consider* testing for delayed sleep phase until the apnea is successfully treated. So at this point I am angry and frustrated at having to repeat myself over and over again, at being dismissed, and at having sleep timing issues that I have been dealing with MY ENTIRE LIFE dismissed as "probably just sleep apnea"."
"I've been a patient at Troy Sleep Center since 2021, and while the office has had some issues with staffing (which is an issue everywhere!) and consequently communication over the years, they continue to do their best to ensure their patients are getting the care they need. I appreciate the transparency from office staff, and that even the busy overbooked providers will take time out of their day to give me a call with updates or to check in to ensure everything is going well. When I had a concern with getting my refills timely and some inconsistent communication with front office staff, Dr. Alkhalil took it upon himself to address the issue and everything was resolved very quickly and I was able to get my medication the same day. The other staff at this office, notably the office manager Rosette and PA Bryce Anderson, have also been incredibly patient and understanding throughout the years and go out of their way to work with me to coordinating my care. Apart from typical things like managing follow-up appointments and medication refills, the office has also assisted me with getting access to specific necessary medication (they are REMS certified!), communicating back and forth with my insurance and submitting appeals on my behalf, and also aiding with FMLA paperwork, just to name a few! I am really grateful to have found Troy Sleep Center after YEARS of seeking an answer to my sleep issues and many misdiagnoses from various providers. The process of being seen as a new patient at Troy Sleep Center was easy, and after the initial appointment they quickly got me scheduled for an overnight followed by a daytime sleep study. The sleep studies themselves went smoother than I expected, and the techs were great and explained everything they were doing. The sleep study rooms were clean and felt like hotel rooms, which definitely helped me feel comfortable during the sleep studies. I never expected or knew much originally about the diagnosis I received, but it 1000% fit and validated everything I've experienced, which was a relief after almost giving up on finding an answer. With the help of Troy Sleep Center I was able to get the education and treatment I needed, and I am thankful to finally have a provider who actually listens, understands, and supports me as I adjust to life with a chronic incurable disorder. If you are seeking help for anything related to sleep the right provider can make all the difference, so don't hesitate to make that first appointment!"
"I would NOT recommend this place at all. I made an appointment, had to wait over a month because they were booked. Finally had the appointment (more like a consultation, however the doctor was very nice) was told they were going to contact me when the device for the home sleep test was ready to be picked up. I’ve tried calling for an update one time I was on hold for an extremely long time and no one never picked up so I just hung up and the other time I was hung up on. It’s been over two months and I was never contacted for my home sleep test. However, I received a notice I had a bill, which I paid. It was a complete waste of money. If you’re thinking about coming here I would definitely reconsider."
