"I had my first Improv class yesterday with Nancy Skinner our head Improv coach. Nancy is a natural at her craft and shared several techniques with us to learn. She is a Second City graduate and specializes in "The Harold" Improv Format under the founder of Improv, Del Close. I wanted to share that I am so happy that we have The Studio Group here in MI. Remember. Nothing is free in life. This is an institution of learning. If you have the determination, patience, education and confidence to be a working actor, as the Studio Group stated on their site. Then this is the school for you. It's definitely for me. Peace."
"Update: I don't feel like the training was for us. We have experience in everything that was covered and they knew that as they saw the resume. This training is for absolute beginners with no experience at all. It is an introduction to the industry. We were seeking more in-depth training which we are still seeking. Also, everybody was nice except for one, Nancy, I'm pretty sure is her name. She was very rude, single me out in class and made a big deal about me being there. She stopped the whole class focusing on getting me out of the class instead of dealing with it after class or during a break. Multiple people in the class was taken up for me and she was not trying to hear none of it, she was focused on putting me out the class. This happened on her first day running the class and everyday after that she just looked at me with an attitude. She also kept coming in and out the class loudly to show potential students the class. Many students were very annoyed by this. I almost forgot, before she released us from the improv class she told us to get on Google and do a review specifically for her, not the company just her. Many students did but I did not. My review is for the company as a whole. I see she is still doing this based on recent reviews. Finally, many times they appeared to be unorganized but they were so nice that you couldn't be mad at them. Review of first encounter: My experience was awesome. It was better than my experience with other companies who made me feel like it was a scam. I see all the reviews about this company and my experience was completely different. But only time will tell which is why I gave a 3 star rating for now. Once the program is completed I will update my review. I have experience with the filming industry, and of course everything cost money. The price that this company charges is less than the prices that other companies are charging. They reiterated multiple times that they are not a talent agency and that they do training to help you learn what you need to know for the filming industry. I hope the training is legitimate. The only thing that I don’t like so far is that they don’t give you copies of your pictures you have to print them off yourself."
"Be careful with this agency. I signed a contract and never got scheduled for my last two classes . Two years later they called me saying I had a balance for those two classes and I explained to them I was never signed up or called about the last two classes . They never gave me an explanation they just told me I needed to pay. Lesson learned but overall I did learn a lot from the first few classes."
"Good for beginner actors. A nice place to start out and learning how to audition and the general world of acting. The classes each have a good amount of info and gets you comfortable with acting. I would like to see more classes added for what is paid, though. Nancy and Don are both great teachers, though."
"My wife just went through their "audition" and she then told me that she needed classes to improve herself for 3k. Seems like they just wanted to pitch you for classes more than they wanted an audition. This experience feels quite scammy to me. I think it's a bit telling all the reviews are either 5 star: the teacher is great I just had my first class or others with the same experience as us. I'd advise to stay away and try community college or other classes from folk who are more upfront and honest about what they are trying to do and not lead you there only to coerce you into paying for their class"
